The family of two people murdered in their Richmond home had a frustrating discovery last week.
Police say a little more than a month after Avery Evans and Karen Simpson were killed inside the home, relatives returned to the murder scene, only to find it had been burglarized.
Police say thieves broke into the Valley Street home sometime in the last week and stole electronics.
Investigators say it’s not uncommon for thieves to target vacated properties.

“A lot of thieves will monitor things like that – whether they know you’re in jail or out of town or whatever – and they’ll target a residence based on that. We initially think that’s probably what happened in this case,” said Robert Mott, assistant police chief.
As for the murders, police are still investigating the case. No one has been arrested.
