Private Detective, Lincoln County Barn Stripped Bare By Thieves

Three men in Lincoln County are facing charges after what they took from a barn. But the Lincoln County sheriff said the thieves weren’t interested in anything that was inside, rather the barn itself.

The walls are all gone from an old barn on Greasy Ridge and it’s no storm damage.

In the early morning hours of Friday, Sheriff Curt Folger says Gregory Turpin and Timothy King of Eubank, and Allen Gifford of Kings Mountain managed to strip the barn to bare bones.

But they were caught red-handed one of the two nights they undressed the barn. The sheriff says they took off, but were later arrested.

“I’m sure they wasn’t expecting us to be there waiting on them,” Sheriff Folger said. “During the interview, they confessed to their crimes.”

Officials say the men would have pocketed about $700 from all of the wood they took. But it will cost anywhere from $15 to $20,000 to repair the damage they caused.

Scrap metal is hard to come by so, officials say, thieves are turning to rustic barn wood – something customers want.

“They want to have the primitive look and it’s a high demand right now for old lumber,” Sheriff Folger said.

The three men are facing charges including receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
