Private Detective: Mother Indicted After Allegedly Trying to Smother Baby

A Lincoln County mother will go on trial for allegedly trying to kill her baby.

29-year-old Tammie Wolfinbarger was indicted by a grand jury on Monday on a charge of attempted murder after police say she tried to smother her 2-month-old son with a pillow last summer.

Wolfinbarger has undergone a psychiatric evaluation and is expected to be back in court for an arraignment on Friday.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children in Lincoln County received an anonymous call about the incident at a house on McKinney Road in between two churches.

Investigators say Wolfinbarger admitted she wanted to kill her 2-month-old son. According to her citation, the mother took a pillow and put it over her baby’s face to try and smother him.

Investigators with Kentucky State Police couldn’t give much information from the case, including statements made from Wolfinbarger on why she wanted to kill her child. They also couldn’t say how long the mother tried to smother the baby.

“Quite lucky the baby’s in good condition as has been placed in another residence at this time,” Trooper Robert Purdy said.

AT the time of her arrest in August of 2013,Tammie Wolfinbarger declined a request for an interview.
