Detectives with the Idaho State Police discovered “dismembered skeletal human remains” in Boise County on Tuesday.
Idaho State Police were tipped off to the location of the remains by a source in another case they are currently working on. Because that case is active, police could not give further information.
Sources also lead investigators to believe that the remains may be those of Joshua Reddington. Reddington, of Salmon, Idaho, has been missing since May 26, 2000. He was 25-years-old when he disappeared, and was last seen in Idaho City.

Idaho State Police said the building where they found the remains is a cabin or a shed, but not a primary residence. The remains were found underneath the building. Captain Bill Gardiner said the skeletal remains are estimated to be about 14 years old, but detectives are waiting on specific dating tests. They have not confirmed the identity of the person and say it could be difficult to do so due to the age of the remains. Investigators didn’t find a whole skeleton.
“The only reason Mr. Reddington’s name has come up is based on some of the sources that we’ve talked to on another case that we’re currently working,” said Gardiner. So there is no scientific data, there’s no evidence that specifically has told us these remains do belong to Mr. Reddington. But, of course, if it’s a lead we’re going to follow it.”
Captain Gardiner said Idaho State Police have spoken to Reddington’s family.
“Our heart goes out to them. It has from the very beginning,” said Gardiner. “Anybody with close family that has disappeared, you feel for.”
There are not any suspects right now, but troopers say they have a few leads.
Authorities found Steven Kalogerakos’ body earlier this year in Boise County. His sister Maria has told NewsChannel 7 she believes Michael Dauber, who was later charged with Kalogerakos’ murder, also killed Reddington.
As with Kalogerakos’ disappearance, the FBI is also involved in this case. Idaho State Police are also working with the Boise County and Lemhi County Sheriff’s Offices.
