Fraud Investigation Accomplice in Handyman Scam Arrested

The woman who investigators say helped a man dubbed the “handyman scammer” commit theft has turned herself in.

Lisa Kay Tornow, 53, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. She turned herself into the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Sunday afternoon, police said.

She has been indicted by a grand jury with five counts of first-degree theft and two counts of second-degree theft.

Police said she assisted Clinton Timothy Reany, 58, who detectives have described as a career criminal when it comes to defrauding people.

Reany, who has more than 20 felony convictions on his record, appeared in court last week and entered a not guilty plea to an indictment that charges him with 11 counts of identity theft, two counts of second-degree theft, six counts of operating without a contractor’s license, five counts of first-degree theft, seven counts of theft by deception, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, one count each of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Court records show that Reany used the names “Rick Mintkenbaugh” and “Dan Reany” to unlawfully deceive and defraud. He is also accused of using the business names of “Concrete Solutions,” “Dan’s Painting” and “Concrete Plus” as part of his scheme to defraud his victims, court records show.

Police said Reany was able to steal more than $5,000 from his victims.

Anyone with information on the alleged scam run by Reany is asked to call Detective Teresa Uttke at 503. 823.0969.
