Private Detective: Alford Plea in Child Abuse Case

The third suspect in an Anderson County child abuse case changed his plea in court.

Herbert Medley entered an Alford Plea. He told LEX 18 that he’s not guilty of the alleged abuse, but there was enough evidence for a jury to convict him.

Back in August 2012 police say a toddler was tied up to her bed by her mother and grandmother, Rebecca Medley and Carolyn Case. Police say that the abuse served as a form of punishment. Medley and Case pleaded guilty and were sentenced to five years.

According to court documents Herbert Medley allegedly knew about the abuse. He was initially charged with complicity to commit abuse first degree, but as part of the plea agreement it was reduced to second degree.

The recommended sentence for Medley is three years probation.

He will be sentenced on April 10.
