Five of the nine people indicted for stealing and selling the rare and expensive Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon were booked into the Franklin County Regional Jail Tuesday night.
In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Pat Melton said that two of the the suspects, Toby Curtsinger and Christopher Preston worked with a Wild Turkey employee, Sean Searcy, to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of bourbon.
He says the group then sold the spirit for half of market price.

Sheriff Pat Melton said that booze was only a part of their plan, “You had the steroid side, and the bourbon side,” he said. “The tentacles go out to different folks…all interconnected.”
Jail officials say each of the five arrested Tuesday were released from the jail shortly after posting bond.
Several others have yet to be arrested, and the Sheriff said that more indictments could be handed down in the future.
