Private Detective: Police Search for Man Who Breaks Into Equipment Trucks

Thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment was stolen from Barney Miller’s on East Main Street.

Police say they believe the man who broke into equipment trucks at Barney Miller’s has done his share of breaking and entering before.

“These guys are very frequent. People always hear about people breaking into cars. This guy takes it to a totally different level,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

They say that on April 18th, the man, with an accomplice, drove into the back parking lot of Barney Milley’s and busted open the side windows of the trucks before crawling in and shutting the door.

“Once he gets inside, he does a very good job concealing himself inside the van, so he’s not sitting there with the door open. He knew it would draw attention to himself,” said Thomas.

Police say he gathered tools and equipment used for audio and video installation and loaded it up into his vehicle multiple times.

“This guy had scouted in advance,” said Thomas. “He knew exactly what he was doing, and he has extensive experience in this.”

Barney Miller’s is on the same block as the police station.

“This is about a block away from the police department. You can’t expect to break into a business in our backyard and have us not come after you,” said Thomas.
