Private Detective: Wayne Co. Deputy Jailer Accused of Trying to Help an Inmate Smuggle Drugs

A Wayne County Deputy Jailer was arrested after deputies say he tried to help an inmate smuggle drugs into the jail.

Dewey Burks, 32, is charged with promoting contraband, trafficking in a controlled substance and official misconduct.

Sheriff’s deputies say that inmate Charles Doan asked a friend to bring pills to the jail and give them to Deputy Jailer Burks.

Investigators say that they waited for Doan’s friend to come to the jail and then they charged Burks and Doan.
