Private Detective: Man Demanding Money From Churches

There was an unusual interruption at the Sunday service at Faith Baptist Church in Simpson County.

Pastor David Pierce said that he was ‘surprised beyond measure’ when a pushy man barged in during the service and demanded money.

The pastor said the man was with two women and at least two kids.

“The folks just came in the back door, the whole family,” said Pierce. “I think he wanted to strike a fear in us.”

The pastor said the family went up front and the man made demands.

“$400. And then all that he said was Money! Money! Money! Money,” said Pierce.

Pierce said the man then grabbed the collection plate and walked up to members, ordering them to hand over cash. No one gave him anything.

“He was so angry. He marched right out. Got in his car and left,” said Pierce.

Someone at the church snapped a photo of the van the family was in. Turns out, this wasn’t the only church the family had visited.

“I think they’ll just take a Sunday and hit one certain area. And then another Sunday and hit another area,” said Lt. Dale Adams with the Franklin Police Department.

Police think that people in the van are traveling up and down I-65 between southern Kentucky and middle Tennessee. Police say that the man speaks very little English and that he says he needs to get his family back to California.

“Somebody needs to call us so that we can get their identify. These folks and stop them in the act,” said Adams.

The van has California tags.
