Private Detective: Woman’s Body Recovered in Lexington Lake

The coroner tells LEX 18 that the woman who crews were searching for at Lake Fontaine on Lake Park Road in Lexington has been recovered.

Rescue crews found her, not far from where witnesses said she went under, around 8:30 Wednesday night. Those crews were called to the scene around 5:40 pm.

The coroner has identified the victim as 27 year-old Scharliegh Rogers.

Neighbors told LEX 18 that a woman was swimming when she started to struggle and yell.

“She made four or five strokes and I saw that she was kind of struggling,” said Brandon Ray, who was on his porch overlooking the reservoir. “I was like, he turn around, I hollered down.”

Ray said he ran down and jumped in the water. He swam out as far as he could to try and help the woman.

“It was tough with the current and everything,” He said. “It seemed like every stroke I would take, she was just taking the opposite.”

William and Diana Rogers said they were in their boat on the other side of the lake at the time. They tried to paddle over and help as well.

“Before we could get ten good strokes in, she was already down,” William Rogers said.

The couple said they recognized the woman because she was often out on the water in a boat. They had never seen her try to swim until today.
