Police are investigating after a Knott County man was shot during a domestic altercation early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened at about 6 a.m. at a home on on Spring Branch in the Pinetop community of Knott County. Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that Donnie Gibson, 43, of Pinetop went to his daughter’s home and confronted her boyfriend, 25-year-old Dillon Cornett.

Police say Gibson initiated an altercation with Cornett while inside the house. Cornett obtained a firearm and fired in the direction of Gibson. Gibson received a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing. Upon completion of the investigation the case, will be presented to a Knott County Grand Jury.
