Missing Person Crews Search for Jeremy Booker

The search for a missing man Saturday night at the Robinson Dam in Harrison County has turned into a recovery effort.

Crews started their search for Jeremy Booker, 23, around 8:30 p.m.

Booker’s fiancee, Kimberly Grimes told LEX 18, the two were at the dam to swim. Grimes was standing on a rock, when she stuck her foot into the water and she was suddenly swept away.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Grimes said Booker jumped in to save her. She was able to get out, but there was no sign of Booker.

Crews searched the water for hours, but found no sign of Booker.

“I’m blaming myself because he didn’t want to come and I fought with him,” Kimberly Grimes told LEX 18. “I told him it was hot and I wanted to go swimming. He said, baby, it’s too dangerous. It’s flowing too hard. And I said, baby, I just want to go swimming… I got out and I stuck my foot in to see how cold it was and it just swept me out.”

The search for Booker’s body was called off around midnight, but is expected to resume Sunday morning.

This drowning happened just hours after another incident at Robinson Dam. The Sheriff’s Office said around 4 p.m. a man nearly drowned. He was taken to UK Hospital, where he’s expected to recover.

Private Investigator Claims Justin Adams is Innocent

OKLAHOMA CITY –

A private investigator hired by accused murderer Justin Adams’ defense team spoke out Saturday.

Adams was arrested in January and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of his wife, Jaymie Adams, and her unborn child. After nearly six months behind bars, Adams bonded out of jail on Wednesday.

A judge had reduced his bail to $100,000.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

Dana Reyna, the private investigator, said she has uncovered information that could lead police to different suspects, which might be why Adams’ bail was reduced.

“Not going to allow someone out on the streets if they are charged with two counts of first-degree murder if they honestly believe there are other possibilities out there,” explained Reyna.

Reyna worked tirelessly and interviewed dozens of people for Adams’ defense team. She uncovered information that could get Adams off on the murder charges. She says many people thought this would be an open-and-shut case, but her investigation proved that would not be so. Instead, she said there were several other theories about who may have killed Jaymie based on the lifestyle she and Justin had.

“Justin and Jaymie had an alternative lifestyle that obviously they were trying to cover up when he was arrested, because he lied to law enforcement. That’s the bottom line. He lied and it ultimately got him in trouble,” said Reyna.

While the lies looked bad, Reyna said that isn’t enough to prove Justin killed his wife.

“The alternative lifestyle that they were leading could open up doors for so many other possibilities to have happened. Anyone that has an alternative lifestyle puts themselves at risk and that’s exactly what has happened.”

Reyna also addressed concerns about Adams’ safety. She said his family has received threats from the public since his arrest in January.

Justin and his family have maintained his innocence since Jaymie’s body was discovered in January.

Fraud Investigation Dario Tomas of Oceanside, CA

SAN DIEGO — A former Department of Homeland Security employee has been sentenced to nearly four months in jail after he took money from investors promising them a computer training school would be built in the Philippines.

Dario Tomas of Oceanside, Calif., was sentenced Friday to 115 days in jail after pleading guilty to wire fraud. The North County Times ( http://bit.ly/OuW192) reports that the 53-year-old took $240,000 from two investors during the scheme that started five years ago.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Tomas created false email accounts in the names of others and used those accounts to send messages to the investors to make it appear as if the project was progressing.

Authorities say Tomas later admitted he gambled the money away.

Tomas served two years in South Korea for the crime before returning to the United States in April.

Pedophile Tracking Child Porn Found on Missing Man’s Computer

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A missing person case led to the arrest of an Olympia man for possession of child pornography.

Troy A. Fisher was reported missing on Tuesday. His family hadn’t heard from the 52-year old since Sunday and he hadn’t reported to work at the Capital Playhouse Theater on Monday.

As police investigated the disappearance, detectives searched Fisher’s computer in hopes of finding clues to where he might have gone. Instead, a computer forensics specialist found pornographic photos involving children, according to police.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

A disoriented Fisher turned up on Wednesday and told police he had no memory of where he’d been since Sunday. He was arrested after being taken to Capital Medical Center for a precautionary examination.

The investigation is ongoing, but police don’t believe there’s any connection between the disappearance and the pornography.

Wrongful Death Kevin Cleeves Killed 3 in PA

QUINCY, Pa. (AP) — A man in south-central Pennsylvania confronting his wife about custody arrangements for their daughter shot to death three people, then fled with the 4-year-old girl before the two were found about 250 miles away in Ohio, authorities said Saturday.

Kevin Cleeves was trying to contact his wife Friday to make arrangements to pick up his daughter Leia, but she didn’t answer the phone, so he went to a home in Quincy Township, the (Waynesboro) Record-Herald (http://bit.ly/O5EeFX) reported, citing court records.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police said Cleeves, 35, found a woman and man sitting in a car and began arguing with them, then was ordered to leave. He then shot to death both of them and another woman and took the girl, authorities alleged.

An Amber Alert was issued Friday night but was canceled hours later after the pair were found in Austintown in northeastern Ohio, outside Youngstown.

Cleeves was arrested in the three deaths Friday night in Quincy Township, Pennsylvania state police Trooper Adam Reed. Police had said earlier that Cleeves should be considered “armed and dangerous as well as suicidal.”

Reed would not give other information about the deaths, including the names of the victims and their relationship to Cleeves, but said more details would be released later Saturday. Court records did not list an attorney for Cleeves.

Private Dective Police Try to Understand Violet Ripken’s Kidnapping

A manhunt continued Thursday for the man who kidnapped baseball matriarch Violet R. Ripken, as Aberdeen police released a surveillance video image of a suspect and several law-enforcement agencies joined the small-town force in the search.

But even as investigators held out hope for a break in the case, they acknowledged that the bizarre circumstances could make it more difficult to crack. Ripken, 74, was abducted from her garage Tuesday morning and disappeared for a day before being returned unharmed, according to police, who say they have not determined a motive.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

A video image released Thursday shows a man police are calling a suspect, wearing an orange baseball cap and a white dress shirt as he stands in what appears to be a place of business. The suspect was described as a white man in his mid-30s to mid-40s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has short brown hair and wore glasses, police said.

The kidnapper is armed and should be considered dangerous, police said.

“It puts a face out there,” Aberdeen police Lt. Fred Budnick said of the video. “We’re hoping someone recognizes the guy and we hope it will be a turning point in the investigation.”

FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard A. McFeely, who heads the Baltimore field office that is assisting in the investigation, said video surveillance photos can be significant assets to an investigation. “We stand a much better chance of catching the subject,” he said.

But he also said there may not be a “quick turnaround.”

Authorities describe a harrowing 24 hours for Ripken, wife of late Orioles manager Cal Ripken Sr. and the mother of Cal Ripken Jr. and Billy Ripken. The kidnapper tied up Vi Ripken and drove her around Central Maryland in her own vehicle before she was returned in the car to her neighborhood early Wednesday.

Police also released an image of Ripken’s vehicle, a 1998 Lincoln Town Car, which was discovered by a neighbor near the 400 block of Clover St.

Police revealed little else about the case, including where the surveillance video was taken. No ransom was believed to be involved, according to police, and a neighbor said Vi Ripken indicated that her famous last name never came up during the abduction.

Fred Ripken, another son of Vi Ripken, visited Aberdeen police headquarters Thursday. He said he was there to provide a statement to police and declined to comment further as he climbed into the driver’s seat of a green Chevrolet pickup. Other family members would not comment beyond a statement issued Wednesday, expressing relief at Vi Ripken’s return and thanking the police working the case.

The circumstances of Ripken’s abduction and return home have puzzled many observers. McFeely said the crime was unusual for investigators as well.

“This is not something we see,” he said. “Hopefully there are forensics that might come out of the vehicle that might be a clue. That’s the sort of stuff they’re dwelling on right now. But it’s not going to be a quick victory.”

Budnick said the Aberdeen Police Department handles a range of crimes, but violence is rare for the sleepy Harford County city. Murders occur about once a year — sometimes less frequently. In his 32 years on the force, he said, he couldn’t recall a kidnapping at gunpoint.

“I’ve been around long enough to know that this is highly unusual,” Budnick said.

Still, Budnick said the department is well equipped to handle the case. He said the agency has a canine unit, bike patrols, criminal investigators, crime-scene experts and a SWAT team, among other police resources. He added that the agency has the help of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police and the FBI.

A neighbor, Erik Snyder, said Wednesday that he had alerted police to Ripken, who waved a white sweater out the driver’s-seat window about 6 a.m. that morning. Police, stationed at the back of Ripken’s house, were setting up barricades to section off the streets near her home of 46 years. Snyder said Ripken’s car was out of the officers’ line of sight.

“At that point in time we weren’t sure what we were dealing with,” Budnick said.

Mike Hudson, who lives across the street from Ripken with his daughter and mother, called the incident “shocking.” Hudson said police came to his home and asked a few questions.

Hudson said he tried to imagine if it had been his daughter in Ripken’s situation. He believes his mother will want to get some sort of alarm or security system after this incident.

“When you know somebody, it makes it a little more real,” he said.

City Councilman Bruce Garner said what happened to Ripken doesn’t necessarily reflect on the residents’ safety. “I think we are in real good shape,” he said of the city’s crime prevention efforts.

City Councilwoman Ruth Elliott, a former schoolmate of Ripken’s, said she was relieved Ripken was not harmed.

“You have all kinds of people in this world. You don’t know what your next-door neighbor might be,” Elliott said. “It can happen anywhere. I was alarmed that it happened here, but I know what the real world is. It’s nothing any locality can do to prevent it beforehand. It’s just the way it is.”

“We will find him,” Elliott added. “We will get him.”
