Missing Person Anthony Newson of Chicago

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 53-year-old man missing from the West Side who might appear confused.

Anthony “Butch” Newson suffers from Alzheimer’s and has had a stroke, so often appears confused, police said in a missing person alert issued tonight.

He was last seen earlier today on the 1600 block of North Lockwood Avenue. Police said Newson sometimes reverts to his Navy days, and has been talking about returning to Norfolk, Virginia.

Missing Persons Michael “Mickey” Broughman

BELCHERTOWN – Despite anguish and grief, the family of a popular Belchertown man – now missing for two years – continues to believe there are people who know what happened and urge them to share that information with the authorities, family members said in recent interviews.

In addition, the sense of hope amid the gloom prompted a younger member of the family to organize a blood drive Monday, the second anniversary of Michael “Mickey” Brougham’s puzzling disappearance, which has perplexed law enforcement officials who suspect foul play and characterize it as a missing person case.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“What really gave me the idea for the blood drive was that close to Mickey’s disappearance, there was a memory I had of him when he saved a woman’s life by giving blood,” said his 21-year old-niece, Molly Brougham.

“He saved her during childbirth by giving his blood,” she said. “Donating blood is a very good cause.”

Today’s blood drive, conducted by the Red Cross in Brougham’s name, is at the Masonic Lodge, 1 Main St. from 1 to 6:30 p.m.

Brougham was last seen in Belchertown Friday afternoon, June 25, 2010. While driving that day, he exchanged a wave with his nephew Adam Brougham, a police officer in town.

Some of Brougham’s personal items, including his watch, wallet and cell phone, were discovered two days later at an automobile race track in Loudon, N.H.
062312_gary_brougham.JPGJim Russell photoBelchertown Town Administrator Gary Brougham said he believes his brother, Michael, missing for two years, is still alive.
Evidence of Brougham’s attendance at the New Hampshire International Motor Speedway in Loudon, which hosted a NASCAR event that weekend, is questionable as track officials told investigators they do not use surveillance cameras.

Family members believe there are people in the community who have information useful to investigators.

Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan is urging anyone with information to use a new, anonymous tip gathering service which accepts information by cell phone text message.

“The new Text-a-Tip program allows citizens to text tips to area law enforcement agencies by typing PROTECT plus a message and text it to 274637,” said a statement from Sullivan released on Thursday. “The sender remains completely anonymous and may choose to opt out at any time.”

Anyone with information can also call the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit at (413) 586-5150.

“We have faith that this will come to an end someday,” Brougham’s sister Cindy Brown said.

“It will come to an end when the people who know something come forward or give the information we need to get him back and to hold somebody accountable,” she said. “I have two elderly parents that have struggled every day with this.”

Harry Brougham, 80, and his wife, Rita, 77, have six children.

“We are sure that people in the community have information that can be very useful to law enforcement; if they could share that, that would be invaluable,” said Brougham’s sister Carla Chaisson.

She urged people to use the new anonymous tip line to share information about Brougham’s disappearance.

“I think it is a tremendous resource to add to the case,” Chaisson said.

Her sister, Fran Lofland, who divides her time between Maine and Belchertown, said the episode has been heart-wrenching.

“It is a huge black hole. There is a lot of heartache and headache. There is no new information. It is surprisingly difficult to get information,” she said.

Shortly after Brougham went missing, a private investigator in the Loudon area, Seldon Nason, volunteered his time and effort, but also came up with nothing, Chaisson said.

Gary Brougham, the Belchertown town administrator, said he believes his brother is still alive, that people have information to share and that justice will eventually be served.

“I know there are people who know what happened to my brother,” he said. “I have full confidence in the justice system – and I am absolutely confident that sooner or later, they will find him.” Noting that Brougham did not inform the family about going away and that all his vehicles were parked in his driveway two years ago, Gary said: “Rarely did he go somewhere without his vehicles; never did he go without telling his family.”

In an interview, Belchertown Police Chief Francis Fox said: “I, like members of the family, believe that someone knows something that they can provide to the authorities. Cases are solved by getting information from the community.” A 27-year veteran of the force, he has been chief since 2002.

Arson Investigation Cottonwood Height Man

A Cottonwood Heights man was charged with arson after his wallet was found near the site of a fire at Tony’s Bar in South Salt Lake.

The manager of the bar spotted the fire on the roof and east side of the building about 2:30 a.m. April 23, police wrote in charges filed Tuesday. After the manager put out the fire with a garden hose, he and the firefighters found a man’s wallet near the scene. The man had been kicked out of the bar a week earlier for fighting, police wrote. Inside the wallet was a receipt for cigarettes and a lighter bought 15 minutes before the manager saw the fire.

The manager said he saw the man’s car circling the block about the time of the fire. The man, 41, was charged with first-degree felony aggravated arson.

Waterline ‘explosion’ knocks man out

A worker was temporarily knocked unconscious Friday morning in Salt Lake City when a waterline broke while the man was working in a 10-foot-deep hole.

The accident, initially described as a waterline “explosion,” occurred at about 10:20 a.m. near 3900 West and 700 South.

The force of the water threw the man against the side of the hole, knocking him unconscious, fire officials said.

The hole started filling with water, but people who were nearby pulled the man out. He regained consciousness and declined medical attention.

Information on the man’s age and who he was working for was not immediately available.

Electronic Surveillanec Homeland Security Expanding Drone Surveillance

WASHINGTON — After quietly testing Predator drones over the Bahamas for more than 18 months, the Department of Homeland Security plans to expand the unmanned surveillance flights into the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico to fight drug smuggling, according to U.S. officials.

The move would dramatically increase U.S. drone flights in the Western Hemisphere, more than doubling the number of square miles covered by the department’s fleet of nine drones, which are used primarily on U.S. borders.

http://liarcatchers.com/electronic_surveillance.html

But the high-tech aircraft have had limited success spotting drug runners in the open ocean.

The drones have largely failed to impress veteran military law officers in charge of finding and boarding speedboats, fishing vessels and makeshift submarines ferrying cocaine and marijuana to America’s coasts.

“The question is: Will they be effective? We have no systematic evidence on how effective they are,” said Bruce Bagley, who studies U.S. counternarcotics efforts at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

Despite that, a new control station will arrive this month in Corpus Christi, allowing Predators based in Texas to cover more of the Gulf. An additional drone will be delivered this year to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s base in Cocoa Beach, Fla., for operations in the Caribbean.

The Federal Aviation Administration has already approved a flight path for the drones to fly more than 1,000 miles to the Mona Passage, the strait between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Missing Person Brittney Wood UPDATE

In another bizarre twist in the mysterious disappearance of a teen mom, police have reported on Friday that her cousins have been arrested for sexual abuse.

Brittney Wood, 19, from Tillmans Corner, Alabama was last seen on May 30, leaving her mother’s home. It was reported that Brittney, who is a single mother, told her family she was going to see her uncle Donald “Donnie” Holland near the Styx River. Although Brittney’s mother, Chessie Wood told HLN (see video) that Brittney was going to her friend Courtney’s house, and she ended up at the Styx River location.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Chessie said that it was too far for Brittney to walk, so she believes that Brittney must have gotten a ride from someone, and thinks it may have been Courtney.

On June 1, Donnie Holland was found in his home in Fairhope by his wife. He had committed suicide, reports Fox 10 News, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said Holland was being investigated for sexual abuse at the time.

“Her uncle has committed suicide and supposedly he was the last one she was with and so we’re worried about that,” said Wallace Hanke, Brittney’s father.

Brittney’s cell phone had pinged near that area and it was also turned on six days after she went missing.

“This was the last place her phone was pinged. They found the signal bouncing off one of these towers and we haven’t talked to her in over a week. We need some help finding her,” said Hanke earlier in the month.

The BCSO would not confirm the rumor that Wood had gone to visit her uncle instead of going to visit Courtney, but did say the three-day search in the Styx River area was related to her cell phone records, reports Lagniappe news. The cell phone was later used in south Mobile County.

Although it was originally reported that the family did not hear from Brittney after the day she left, the Mobile Police Dept. stated they have received “incomplete answers,” and that the family did hear from her after she left the home and the time she was reported missing.

Then Tuesday, June 19, two of Brittney’s family members were arrested for a sex crime.

Randall Scott Wood, 42, was arrested for sodomy and incest after police received information from a juvenile on June 19. Dustin Alton Kent, 36, was also arrested and charged with sodomy and rape on June 19. Capt. Steve Arthur of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said that these two men are cousins of Brittney, in the video, although other information has identified them as Brittney’s uncles. Randall Scott Wood is Brittney’s mom’s (Chessie Wood) brother and Dustin Kent is married to Brittney’s mom’s sister, Mendy.
Mendy is twin sister to Wendy, Donnie Hollands Wife .

“I think that once our investigation is complete and all the individuals that are implicated in this investigation are brought to arrest, I can give you more details; and you’ll understand how serious the crime is,” said Capt. Arthur tells Fox 10 news.

Brittney is still missing and there is only speculation where she may be at this point. Earlier in the month, her brother said that he thought she may be scared and was in hiding. The charges against her family members may explain why she would feel the need to hide. We can only hope that after all the arrests have been made that Capt. Arthur was referring to, Brittney will reappear.

Arson Investigation Peachtree City Rec

Peachtree City police on Saturday were seeking a motive from a 19-year-old janitorial worker charged with setting fires at Kedron Fieldhouse and Acquatic Center, which serves as the city’s recreation department.

Robert Earl Striggles, 19, of Palmetto, had not talked to police as of Friday, Capt. Rosanna Dove said. “We know from video footage it is definitely him,” she said.

Striggles worked for a janitorial service that cleans the building at night. Police charged him with felony arson, burglary and interference with government property in the setting of two fires Thursday.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Sprinkler systems were activated, flooding the building, and the fires did not spread. The building’s alarm system, however, did not go off and the damage was not discovered until workers arrived Thursday morning.

City staff investigated whether a possible electrical problem prevented the alarm system from immediately alerting emergency responders when the fire began.

The building was closed while crews worked to clean up damage resulting from the fires and water.

The city wants to get the center operational as quickly as possible so recreational activities, such as scheduled swim meets, can proceed, Dove said.

The investigation is continuing.

Wrongful Death Volunteers Still Searching for Keith Goldberg’s Body

LAS VEGAS – Police say he was murdered in cold blood, but his body was never found. Friday night, volunteers again searched the mountains east of Las Vegas to find where Keith Goldberg may be buried.

It’s said you can learn a lot about someone by walking a mile in their shoes. Red Rock Search and Rescue volunteers have put a lot of wear on their shoes. They have trekked approximately 50 square miles near Sunrise Mountain during the last ten weeks in their effort to find the body of Keith Goldberg.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

David Cummings is commanding this all-volunteer operation.

“It’s a needle in a haystack,” he said. “We know the subjects were out here for six hours total the day his body was, we assume, dumped out here.”

Metro Homicide detectives suspect Goldberg’s body could be somewhere in this area. Cell phone tower records show the suspects, Christopher and Georgene “Cookie” Ross, were in the area for six hours February 1. Authorities say this crime was the violent result of a love triangle.

Volunteers drive where they can and hike through miles of desert.

“We just want to look for anything that’s out of place, rocks moved, signs that maybe somebody’s been somewhere that they wouldn’t normally be,” said volunteer Valarie Nardone.

Searchers dig in suspicious areas, pushing themselves in the hot desert so this case will never go cold.

“They keep coming out here. They bring their heart every time they’re out there,” said Red Rock Search and Rescue Vice Commander Dana Richardson. “They have a passion for this, and they come out here. They sweat. They get beat up and do a lot of good, and every single one of our missions is one hundred percent successful, because if we don’t find what we’re looking for, we find where they’re not.”

They believe they aren’t far from Keith Goldberg, and they vow his body will be returned home to his loving family.

“We’re going to find him. We’re not going to quit until we find him. We don’t quit,” Cummings said.

Goldberg’s accused killers remain in the Clark County Detention Center. Bail for each is set at $145,000. The couple is due in court in mid-August.

Missing Persons Midyett Still Looking for Kids

Rolla, Mo. —

Last year 6,423 children were reported missing in the state of Missouri according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

In 2009, 7,002 children were reported missing in Missouri. Of those children, 116 have yet to return home. Two of those children were Oliver and Wilman Midyett.

“You just pray everyday that they are all right,” the boy’s father Jason Midyett, of Rolla, said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

In the early months of 2009, the Midyett boys were living with their mother, Jetta Niehouse Midyett in Dent County as their parents pursued a bitter custody battle. Jetta Midyett had accused Jason Midyett of abuse — an accusation that has not been proven. He countered that with claims that his children were kept from him for many months.

During the divorce and custody proceedings, Jason Midyett was finally able to begin bonding with his kids again as the judge ordered supervised visitation.

He used the time to bond with the boys, taking them on fishing outings and introducing them to the outdoor activities he always envisioned doing with his sons.

In the end, the judge awarded Jason Midyett custody of both boys. Jetta Midyett was given visitation rights, and was ordered to turn the children over to her now ex-husband May 28, 2009.

Jason Midyett arrived at the courthouse where he and the boys mother had agreed to meet and began to wait. He is still waiting to see his boys again. Jetta Midyett never arrived with the kids, and the trio has been missing since.

“You don’t know where to start or where to go, and you just hope that the next day something will turn up,” Jason Midyett said.

He has been scouring the country in hopes of finding his children, with the help of a private detective at times, since that spring day three years ago.

At one time he believes those efforts came very near his being reunited with the boys. Jetta Midyett has family in Texas, and was thought to have taken the boys there. An address of an apartment was found, but when Houston police arrived the apartment had been freshly cleaned, painted and moved out of.

Jason Midyett does not believe the boys are in any kind of physical danger. He, along with police, believe their mother is hiding out. He does worry about their well-being though.

“It’s the psychological harm of not having a father there that I worry about,” Jason Midyett said. “That has to affect them.”
