Private Detective: Indiana Man Indicted in Sexual Assault of 15 Year Old Girl

An Indiana man who allegedly drove to Bergen County to have sex with a 15-year-old girl he met in an online chat room has been indicted on charges of sexual assault, child endangerment, and hindering apprehension.

A grand jury sitting in Hackensack returned a 14-count indictment last week against Joshua Elkins, 32, of Fort Wayne, Ind., who is accused of having committed the alleged offenses between September 2012 and January 2013.

Elkins, a convicted sex offender, was arrested in Indiana in January 2013 after his relationship with the then 15-year-old Mahwah girl was reported to school officials by an acquaintance of his, authorities have said.

He met the girl in a Russian Roulette-style chat room, initiating an exchange that the pair later moved to their cellphones, according to an account given by the Mahwah police.

Elkins made the 10-hour drive to New Jersey in December 2012 and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl over two days at a Mahwah home and in a Paramus hotel room.

The indictment charges him with attempting to lure or entice the girl into a car and/or building; multiple counts of criminal sexual contact and sexual assault; engaging in conduct that would impair or debauch the morals of a child; hindering his apprehension by means of force or intimidation; and witness tampering.

Indiana state records show that Elkins has at least one prior conviction for sexual misconduct with a minor, according to police.

Omegle, the roulette-style chat website that Elkins used, randomly pairs users in one-on-one chat sessions where they chat anonymously. The site allows users to socialize with strangers without registering, making it harder for law enforcement to trace users, police said.

Elkins has been held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack in lieu of $200,000 bail since March 2013. He is expected to be arraigned on the charges in the indictment within six weeks.

Private Detective: Woman Accused of Using Her Child To Help Her Shoplift

One woman has been charged with theft and unlawful transaction with a minor after police say she used her child to shoplift almost $700 worth of merchandise from a Berea Wal-Mart.

Police say Peggy Elam entered Wal-Mart and grabbed bags from the front of the store. She is alleged to have put a number of items from the store in a gray plastic tote and other items in the bags.

 http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“Then they put the tote in the buggy and she instructed her child to go to one of the self check outs and pay for two items, some soda I think, so they paid for those two items and pushed the cart out with everything in it and did not pay for the items in the tote,” Sgt. Jake Reed with the Berea Police Department told LEX 18’s Richard Essex.

Elam was arrested. Sgt. Reed said that at first she denied taking the items but eventually admitted that she took the items and asked her child to participate.

Wal-Mart did not pursue charges against Elam’s teenage child.

Private Detective: Woman Arrested For Child Abuse and Endangerment

One Bell County mother was arrested and charged with criminal abuse and endangering the welfare of a child after a welfare check at her home.

Two deputies and a social services worker went to the home on Tuesday, around 2:30 p.m.

When no one answered the door, they went to the back door to find it cracked open. After a neighbor told them that she had witnessed a child being thrown around and bleeding the night before, the deputies entered the residence.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Inside the home, deputies say there was an overwhelming odor of urine and fecal matter in the apartment.

26- year old Brandi Howerton, of Pineville, gave the deputies permission to search the apartment. Deputies say that Howerton’s children, a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, were soiled.

The deputies and the social worker say they discovered garbage and dishes piling up and spoiled food throughout the apartment.

According to deputies, the toilet did not flush and Howerton said the water had been turned off for several days and she was in the process of being evicted.

They say the upstairs bathroom was overflowing with fecal matter. In one of two bedrooms they found syringes and a foldable knife.

Deputies say they found syringes in Howerton’s bedroom as well as a small metal container with crystal residue believed to be meth, and a cellophane wrapper with what was believed to be meth residue in it that was purposely concealed.

Howerton admitted to using meth.

A relative of Howerton’s was contacted to take the children from the apartment.

Deputies arrested Howerton and she is currently lodged in the Bell County Detention on charges that include two counts of Criminal Abuse, second degree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence and one count of Drug Paraphernalia.

Howerton is set to be arraigned Wednesday morning.
