Wrongful Death Mother and Son Both Charged With Murder

A mother and son duo are both charged with murder.

The Richmond Register reports that Melissa Collins was originally charged with evidence tampering in the death of Ronnie Kelly. A murder that her son, Adrian Collins, was charged with. On Wednesday, a Madison County grand jury indicted both mother and son on murder and evidence tampering charges, according to the paper.

Police say Kelly died of a gunshot wound on October 31st in the apartment all three shared. Melissa told police she called 9-1-1 about two minutes after the shooting. But blood screens indicated the shooting took place much earlier.

Wrongful Death Coroner Releases ID of Man Killed in Lexington Shooting

The Coroner has released the name of the man killed early Sunday morning in a shooting that police are currently investigating.

Authorities say Andres Soto Jr., 20, died from a gunshot wound around 4:14 Sunday morning. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Investigators say the shooting happened on Oxford Circle right off of Versailles Road around 3:25 a.m Sunday morning.

Witnesses say the shots came from a white van.

The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.

Wrongful Death Man Charged in Deadly Hit and Run in Louisville

A man was arrested and charged with murder after a deadly hit-and-run accident Sunday morning in the Portland neighborhood.

Police located Charles Ballard, 26, a short distance away from the scene of the accident at 25th and Bank Streets, according to Louisville Police.

Ballard was taken into custody without incident, police said. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance or operator’s license in possession, DUI and murder.

Police were called to Griffiths Avenue near 25th Street shortly before 4 Sunday morning on a call of a hit and run. When they arrived, they found a man in his 20s who had been struck by a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Missing Person CA Man Missing In Grand County, UT

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating a California man who is reportedly missing out of Grand County, Utah, and police have confirmed the man’s sister is an actress who appeared in “The Hills” and his brother-in-law is Chicago Bear’s quarterback Jay Cutler.

Grand County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the missing person case of Michael Cavallari, of San Clemente, Calif. The investigation began last month when authorities found Cavallari’s vehicle near Interstate 70.

On Nov. 27, Grand County Dispatch was contacted regarding a vehicle that was about 100 feet off the Floy Wash Road, according to a press release from Grand County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, they discovered a 2014 Honda Civic about five miles south of exit 175 on I-70.

The driver of the vehicle was not found in the immediate area. Deputies discovered the vehicle was registered to Cavallari, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Information received from San Clemente law enforcement led investigators to believe the vehicle was driven by Michael Cavallari,” the release states.

Credit card transaction receipts led investigators to a convenience store in Monticello where security footage positively identified the driver as Cavallari.

“At this time, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office is handling this matter as an active missing person investigation,” the release states.

Authorities in Grand County confirm the man’s sister is Kristin Elizabeth Cutler, who appeared in “The Hills”. Cutler is married to Jay Cutler, who is an NFL quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

Wrongful Death 911 Dispatcher Killed; Man Charged With Murder

State police say 25-year-old Dustin Sparks was at house party on Fairgrounds Road in Owsley County Friday night, when he fatally stabbed 28-year-old Benjamin Brewer of Beattyville shortly before 10:30.

“It just been a shock. It’s a total shock to the whole community. Ben was a well respected, well mannered young man. He grew up with my kids playing basketball,” said friend Charlotte Gabbard.

According to arrest papers, nothing was unusual about the evening until Brewer and Sparks got into an argument. That’s when witnesses say Brewer threw a punch at Sparks and Sparks allegedly then swung a knife back at Brewer, cutting his neck. Brewer was pronounced dead on scene.

“I said, ‘why…why he get stabbed?’ They said it could have been over a woman or something,” said Gabbard.

Arrest papers indicate Sparks says he stabbed Brewer because he feared for his life, but Sparks had no visible injuries and witnesses say Sparks had absolutely no reason to fear for his life.

“Never would I dream that Ben Brewer would have had any kind of altercation with someone like that,” said Gabbard.

Dustin Sparks has been charged with 1st degree murder.

People who knew Ben Brewer say he graduated from Owsley County High School and worked for Madison County 911 Dispatch.

“I know his mother well and my heart and prayers just go out to her because I cant imagine what she’s feeling today. Who would have thought that something like this happen to Ben,” said Gabbard.

Private Detective: Laurel County Woman Arrested Twice in One Night

Deputies say a Laurel County woman was arrested twice in less than 6 hours.

According to investigators, the first arrest happened at a motel off KY 770 Friday night when they received a tip about a person with outstanding warrants. Deputies arrested 36-year-old Melissa Ballinger around 8 p.m. and charged her on two bench warrants. She was released before 11 p.m.

Deputies say a few hours later, around 1 a.m., they arrested Ballinger again after she was allegedly found intoxicated and creating a disturbance by yelling and cursing at a restaurant of KY 770.

Ballinger was taken back to the Laurel County Detention Center and was charged with public intoxication, disorderly contact, menacing and falsely reporting an incident.

Private Detective: Seven Charged With Drug Trafficking in Floyd County

Seven people have been indicted after state troopers conducted a drug roundup in Floyd County.

On Thursday, troopers arrested seven people they say are now facing trafficking charges after an investigation by KSP’s Criminal Interdiction Team.

Authorities tell LEX 18 that the investigation lasted several months and that more arrests are pending.

The suspects are all currently in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Wrongful Death Man Charged With Murder in Owsley County

Kentucky State Police was called to Fairgrounds Road in Owsley County just after 10:30 p.m. Friday night, and are now conducting an investigation into what led to a man’s death.

The initial investigation alleges that Dustin Sparks, 25, of Clay County, was at a residence on Fairgrounds Road when he fatally stabbed Benjamin T. Brewer, 28, of Beattyville, following an argument.

Dustin Sparks was taken into custody following the incident and is now lodged in Three Forks Regional Jail, charged with Murder.

Benjamin Brewer died at the scene was pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner.

Missing Person Danica Graham of Milford, CT

The Milford Police Department Special Investigation Unit is investigating a missing person complaint, the third missing Milford teenager report issued this week.

On Dec. 1, at approximately 11:50 a.m. the Milford Police Department was contacted by the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) in regards to a missing person complaint, police said.

DCF indicated that a 16-year-old female who is currently in DCF care left the DCF Milford office on foot and did not return. The teen is identified as Danica Graham, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 130 lbs., multi-color hair, brown eyes and glasses.

Danica was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black headband. She is known to frequent the New Haven area, police said.

Private Detective: Police Make Arrest in Connection With Multiple Restaurant Break-Ins

Police have arrested a man in connection with multiple break-ins in Lexington.

Officers are saying that William James Griffith,35, has been charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd degree.

Police noticed many similarities between Friday morning’s break-in at Captain D’s and Thursday’s break-in at a Zaxby’s.

Police say the burglary at Captain D’s was captured on video surveillance and the suspect matches the description of a thief that ripped off Zaxbys the day before. Both times the suspect came through a vent in the roof.

Police are currently looking into other break-ins that may or may not be related.

According to the surveillance video, the suspect was in the store for some time trying to get into the office and cash registers.
