A Temple man who pleaded guilty to molesting a 9-year-old boy received a lengthy prison sentence Monday.

Isaac Paul, 19, was indicted March 25 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.

“We went to church together,” the victim’s father said.

The victim, who is now 11, told police Paul molested him several times in July 2013.

The boy’s father said his son now questions his sexuality due to the abuse.

“It’s been a journey for him,” the father said. “I have to sit down with him quite often to let him know it’s nothing he’s done.”

Paul pleaded guilty to performing oral sex on the boy in October 2014 and was sentenced to 10 years of deferred adjudication probation in December 2014. But prosecutors said family members of the molested boy were angered at the lenient sentence. Soon after, Paul was arrested while on probation and charged with additional sex acts.

Paul’s defense attorney, Michael Magana, called his client to the stand and Paul testified he was remorseful and trying to move on with his life.

“I tried to keep as much distance as I could from them,” Paul said. “I even moved to a different town.”

Paul said the sexual assaults occurred on a single day, not over a month as claimed by the victim.

When cross-examined by prosecutor Nelson Barnes, Paul spoke softly and often hung his head.

Barnes pointed out Paul’s own statement to police some eight months after the offense in which Paul admitted to multiple acts of sexual abuse during July 2013.

“You forced sex on a 9-year-old boy, didn’t you?” Barnes asked.

“I didn’t force him,” Paul replied.

Paul’s responses to questions from the prosecution eventually led to questions from the judge, who pushed Paul on his statements to police in the months after the abuse. “Why did you do this?” Trudo asked.

“Ma’am, I honestly don’t know,” Paul answered. “It was just a very stupid mistake I made.”

Prosecutors asked Trudo to sentence Paul to 30 years.

“He’s earned every day and probably more,” Barnes said in closing arguments, while Magana asked Trudo to sentence his client to no more than 10 years.

Trudo met them in the middle, sentencing Paul to 15 years in state prison.

Paul must also register as a sex offender for life.

A former Monterey Park resident was sentenced Monday to 40 months in federal prison for conducting a massive identity theft and tax refund scheme, officials said.

Sang Hwoon Shin, 41, who had been living under an assumed identity, according to authorities, pleaded guilty last year to five counts of wire fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft, according to documents filed with the court.

He obtained fake DMV documents in the names of identity theft victims and opened bank accounts with them to receive tax refunds over a four-year period, IRS officials said.

In all, the scheme was intended to net $1.4 million, but the actual amount was approximately $316,000, which Shin was ordered to pay in restitution, officials said.

He has been in custody since his arrest in April of 2013.

A Port Crane man who is currently in state prison was charged Wednesday with sexually abusing four children in 2011.

Michael Clark, 48, allegedly abused the children, who were each younger than 11 years old, while residing in the Town of Fenton, state police said Friday. On April 29 of this year, troopers received a child abuse report from Broome County Child Protective Services and initiated the investigation.

Clark was charged with felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse.

He was arraigned in Fenton Town Court and sent back to the Gowanda Correctional Facility, where he was already incarcerated on an unrelated charge.

A future court appearance in the sex abuse case is pending, police said.

Police say they arrested Richard Derringer and charged him with two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, and one count each of Fleeing and Evading (motor vehicle), Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Possession of Marijuana in connection with a vehicle pursuit which occurred in the early hours of December 7.

The Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the public’s help to find a critical missing person.

73-year-old Stambert Lee Dean was last seen on December 5 around 3:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Crittenden Street, Northeast.

He is described as a black male, 5-foot-nine, 150 pounds with gray hair and a gray beard. He has brown eyes and wears glasses.

Dean was last seen wearing a blue jacket with brown collar, blue jeans, a blue hat and black shoes.

Two subjects broke into vehicles parked in the Baptist Fitness Center parking lot in London Monday morning.

The Laurel County Sheriff reports that around 11:00 a.m. the two subjects broke into two different cars by breaking out the side window of each. They stole purses from both vehicles.

Surveillance photos indicate the suspect vehicle was described as a 2015 Dodge Charger, dark grey or black.

The vehicle has Halo headlights.

The Sheriff says the driver of the vehicle appears to be a black male.

They did not give a description of the passenger.

The Scott County teacher who pleaded guilty to lesser charges after revelations of a relationship with a student will spend one year in jail. That was the sentence handed down Monday morning in the Scott County Circuit Court.

Former social studies teacher Elizabeth Alexander said she was sorry for what she did in that it was inexcusable… and she wanted to spend Christmas with her son. Her lawyers wanted probation, saying Alexander has no criminal past and said jail would do nothing to help her. The judge did not agree with that… and sentenced her to one year in jail. There is no word yet on parole eligibility.

State Police are asking for your help finding a man wanted for robbery and stealing two different vehicles.
It was just after 9 Sunday morning that troopers say they got a tip about a car theft in Bell County.

Troopers tried stopping the car, but lost the car during a chase.
Troopers were also called about an armed robbery in the same area near where the car was later found.
The homeowner told KSP the man who had been in the Mustang kicked in her back door, then demanded her purse and keys to her SUV.

Troopers are now looking for 27 year old Gary Mills, who is expected to be in a 2002 Jeep Wrangler.
Mills is described as a white man, about 5′ 10″, 150 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.

A GoFundMe page has been setup for 6 year old Logan Tipton, who was stabbed to death in his home early Monday morning.

Versailles police said 32 year old Ronald Exantus broke into the Tipton family’s home on Douglas Avenue in Versailles around 3:50 Monday morning and stabbed Logan in his head and neck as the boy slept.
