Private Detective: Former Falmouth Police Chief Pleads Guilty To Abuse of Public Trust

Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Special Prosecutions today announced the guilty plea of Mark Lane Posey in Franklin Circuit Court.  Posey was Chief of Police in Falmouth, Ky. from March 2008 until his resignation February 5, 2015.

Friday morning, Posey pleaded guilty to abuse of a public trust, theft by unlawful taking of a firearm and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

“I appreciate the hard work of my Office of Special Prosecutions and my Department of Criminal Investigations in securing a guilty plea in this case,” Attorney General Conway said.  “These laws are in place to protect the citizens in Kentucky from the illegal mismanagement of resources by public officials and to ensure that there is accountability when public servants are entrusted with public funds.”

An investigation by the  Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) uncovered that between March 2008 through December 2014, Posey took over $500 in funds from a drug task force account.  Posey would solicit donations from local businesses for drug cases and deposit the funds into one account.  Posey would then write checks out of that account for cash and keep the funds for personal use.  Posey then forged the signature of a co-signor to the account.  Also, Posey purchased a gun with Falmouth Police department funds approved by city council and then sold the gun to a friend for a higher amount.

As a condition of his plea agreement, Posey has agreed to pay back $16,700 in restitution and can no longer work in law enforcement.  Posey’s penalty range, two to four years in prison, and the possibility of probation will both be determined by the Court at his sentencing hearing.  Posey is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18 in Franklin Circuit Court.

Missing Person Weston, Wis. Teen Missing 3 Weeks

Police and family members still need your help to locate a teenager that disappeared almost three weeks ago. 14-year old Mackenzie Marken of Weston left her home early October 11th, and is still missing.

Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Anderson says there was a report of Marken being seen October 16th by the school and at Mosinee’s River Park, but no other leads have come in.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Anderson told WAOW television it’s highly unusual for a teenager to be missing this long. “In my experience, we’re usually able to locate a missing person within maybe the same day or a couple of days. Two weeks is a long time.”

Mackenzie Marken is considered a runaway, and has not attended classes or contacted friends or family since the 11th. “Nowadays, in the world of social media and Internet, it’s very unusual that nobody’s heard from her.”

Investigators have talked to several people, done surveillance and they’ve asked other law enforcement agencies to keep an eye out for her.

If you have any information about the location of Mackenzie Marken, contact your nearest law enforcement agency or call Marathon County Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-877-409-8777. You can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

Wrongful Death Man Found Guilty of Murder of 86 Year Old Woman

Daniel French was found guilty of aggravated murder in the death of 86-year-old Barbara Howe.

On Wednesday he was found guilty of aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, meaning that he is eligible for the death penalty.

French is accused of killing Howe more than two years earlier in Ohio. Howe’s body was found in the trunk of the car.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

During the alleged confession the Journal-News says French tells the detective that he only meant to rob the elderly woman, not kill her.

“I just wanted to see if she had money. I was going to take it.  Basically I took a stun gun. This is all I was going to do. It didn’t work. It wasn’t my intention to choke her to death. I was just trying to get her to black out and she wouldn’t. I choked her to death,” French told detectives.

French told detectives that he was haunted by Howe’s ghost and had apologized to her.
