Two gruesome discoveries in two days along two rivers in Northern Kentucky do not appear to be related.

A human arm and a foot were found about 24 hours apart, but police say it’s a strange coincidence.

“It’s not unusual to find something unusual on the river bank, but that’s a little bit more unusual than what you usually see,” says Carrollton Mayor Gene McMurry.

Inside a 2011 Nike shoe was a sock, covering a deteriorating human foot. Mayor McMurray lives just a few houses down from where the body part washed ashore.

“I guess it’s just fortunate that people are nosy enough when they picked that shoe up to look at it and there’s a bone in there,” says McMurry.

Adding to the mystery, a day earlier, state police say a severed human arm was found along the Kentucky River in neighboring Henry County. Though it’s strange timing, as of now, Carrollton Police say the two discoveries do not appear to be linked.

The severed arm, police say, also still had flesh attached, while the foot did not. Investigators say they are looking through missing person cases, as they worked to identify the body parts and figure out how they wound up in nearby Northern Kentucky Rivers.

New information has been released about the death of a 19-year-old gunned down in Lexington’s Winburn neighborhood.

Jeffery Adams was shot and killed earlier this month. One of the men charged in connection with the case was in court this morning. 19-year-old Nathan Miller along with a juvenile are charged with complicity to commit murder. Investigators say the two were among the people who use a drug deal to lure Adams to an apartment on McCullough drive.

During Miller’s preliminary hearing this morning Detective Franz Wolff with the Lexington Police Department told the court that the group of men used a cellphone that belonged to a friend of Adams, leading Adams to believe his friend was the one texting him.

“It would have not been known by the victim that this info was coming from the juvenile co-defendant,” says Det. Wolff.

The detective said the group of four, a juvenile, Miller, Sayvon Thompson and another unidentified person arrived before Adams. The juvenile told police that Miller was hiding, waiting for Adams.

“Nathan Miller was armed with a gun and was sitting in the stairwell between the floors of the apartment building waiting on the victim to arrive,” says Det. Wolff

Police say at least 2 shots were fired at Adams killing him but it isn’t clear who fired those shots. Miller has said he used to live at the apartment complex where this happened but had recently moved to Georgetown and that’s where he was when Adams was killed.

A death investigation is underway in Lexington after human remains were found Wednesday night in a field.

Lexington Police responded around 7 p.m. to the scene off Citaton Boulevard between Newtown Pike and Georgetown Road near Legacy Trail. Officers said a man passing through the area made the discovery.

According to the Fayette County Coroner, the remains consist of a skull with teeth, a forearm, and a hipbone. Some clothing was also found. The coroner said the remains are believed to be those of a man and they have likely been there for at least six to nine months. The remains were separated and scattered.

The first discovery was made Friday afternoon along the Kentucky River in Henry County. State police say a severed human arm washed up onto a river bank. A search of the water and the surrounding area turned up no other remains.

A little more than 24 hours later in Carroll County, police say a man walking a bank of the Ohio River behind his home found what appears to be a 2011 man’s Nike shoe. Inside was a sock, covering a human foot.

According to investigators, the arm had flesh and the foot did not.

“This could be possibly, maybe somebody that was on a boat or a barge. We have a lot of barge traffic that comes through. It could be someone who drowned in the water. It could be a lot of things. At this point we don’t know,” said Carrollton Police Officer Tim Gividen.

Carrollton Police are looking over their missing persons cases. They’ve also contacted other agencies in Kentucky and in Ohio.

A man was hospitalized after being shot late Tuesday night.

According to a Madison County police citation, 67-year-old John Durham shot Daryl Pigg multiple times at a home on South Dogwood Drive in Berea around 11 p.m.

Durham admitted to firing one warning shot before shooting Pigg in the legs three times. He is in the Madison County Detention Center facing assault first degree.

Pigg’s condtion is unknown at this time.

A man who failed to show up last spring for sentencing in a domestic violence case has been named in a 16-count indictment charging him with sexually abusing a girl when she was 14 and 15 years old.

Jovan Taylor, 30, of Fifth Ave. was indicted Friday on three counts each of use of a child in a sexual performance and promoting a sexual performance by a child, nine counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and a count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the indictments.

His arraignment is pending.

The indictment alleges Taylor sexually abused the girl between 2011 and 2012 at his Fifth Avenue home.

In August 2012, Taylor was charged with menacing, harassment, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child after a reported domestic incident at his Fifth Avenue home, according to police records.

Authorities did not say whether the cases are connected or involve the same girl.

Taylor later pleaded guilty to criminal contempt in that case, but was a no-show at his April sentencing, prosecutors said.

Taylor’s jail or bail status could not be immediately determined.

A search for a missing man, ended with a body found in Harrison County on Tuesday. Emergency crews spent some of Monday night and most of Tuesday, looking for 32-year old Clinton O’Brien.

Clinton O’Brien disappeared on Wednesday last week, then his abandoned vehicle turned up near the Robinson Dam on Monday. That is the same place where a man’s body, who has yet to be identified, was pulled from the water on Tuesday

“I just hope for the best,” Darrell O’Brien as the search began for his nephew Tuesday morning. For family of Clinton O’Brien, it was a hope for answers that kept them looking.

“Well, I come down this morning before they all got here and walked the banks up and down through here,” said Darrell O’Brien. So did the Harrison County Search and Rescue team.

After the 32-year old father’s vehicle was found with the keys in the ignition and a flat tire near the dam on Monday, emergency crews didn’t hesitate.

“We felt like with the car being down here and him being missing for so long, that having the keys in the ignition was just a trigger for us that we need to thoroughly make sure that there’s nothing down here,” said Chief Rejeana Craft, with the Harrison County Search and Rescue. Sadly, the workers did find someone.

Fire and search crews spent two hours walking the banks Monday night. On Tuesday, besides a break for the rain, people worked from dawn to dusk with boats and cadaver dogs in the water. After the animals found a scent, officials said it only took a little over an hour to find a body.

“It has been an extremely hard day for us,” said Craft. “It’s hard for us to come out here and look for anybody.” It was especially hard because the team stayed in contact with Clinton O’Brien’s loved ones throughout the search. Now the family is focused on the man they miss.

“He’s a big hearted person. I mean if he could help somebody he’d help somebody,” said Darrell O’Brien.

On Tuesday it was Clinton O’Brien’s family who was helped the most. “We really like to give closure to the family. It is our number one goal,” said Craft.

Officials are hoping to have more information by the morning.

A grand jury has indicted a man accused of smuggling a methadone-soaked underwear into the Jessamine County jail and distributing patches of it to his cell mates, ultimately resulting in the overdose death of one man.

Michael B. Jones, 55, is charged with second degree manslaughter in the death of fellow inmate Cory McQueary, who was found dead in his cell from an overdose in August.

A lead detective in the case, Rodney Wren, said he had dealt with the victim before the incident and that the man was in good condition prior to the fatality.

According to his arrest citation, while Jones was away for a funeral, he soaked his underwear in liquid methadone and wore it back to his jail cell, where he ripped it up and handed it out to his cell mates.

“He was ripping the underwear up and the inmates in the cell were chewing on the underwear, and basically sucking the methadone out of the material,” Detective Wren said.

Six inmates, including Jones, tested positive for methadone.

Jones is also indicted on two drug charges. He was originally charged with murder.

He’s scheduled to enter a plea to the charges on Nov. 14.
