Identity Theft Former IRS Employee Arrested

A former Internal Revenue Service employee was arrested and charged with participating in an identity theft conspiracy that used information stolen from the files of other IRS employees.

The former IRS employee Viririana Hernandez, 30, was arrested Tuesday at her mother’s home in Parlier, Calif., and charged with identity theft conspiracy, according to U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner’s office.

Her co-defendants Roberto Martinez, 33, and Lilliana Gonzalez, 32, both of Fresno, were also arrested at their residence Tuesday morning. All three defendants were arraigned Tuesday and entered pleas of not guilty. Martinez was released from custody with electronic monitoring. Hernandez and Gonzalez remain in custody and had a detention hearing on Thursday. Arraignment for a fourth defendant, Daniel Miranda, 25, has not yet been scheduled.

On July 18, 2014, a federal grand jury in Fresno returned a 23-count indictment, charging the defendants with conspiracy, bank and wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Miranda was also charged with mail fraud.

According to the indictment, from June 2012 to January 2014, the four conspirators obtained personal information from victims through various methods. Hernandez worked for the IRS since 2006 and had access to the personal information of IRS workers. Several of the victims are current or former IRS workers.

Without the victims’ permission, they opened credit card accounts in the victims’ names or added themselves as “authorized users” of the victims’ existing accounts. The conspirators then used the accounts to buy goods and services at locations throughout the Fresno area, as well as in Modesto and Riverside County. In total, the four conspirators allegedly misused the personal information of approximately 160 victims and attempted fraudulent credit card charges of more than $1.2 million.

The case is the product of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, and the Fresno Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michael G. Tierney is prosecuting the case.

“Identity theft is a nationwide crisis that places a heavy burden on the victim and creates chaos in the victims’ lives,” said Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration San Francisco Field Division special agent-in-charge Rod Ammari in a statement. “When an IRS employee is involved in stealing information through their employment at the IRS and facilitating identity theft rings, it will not be tolerated and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration will use all its power and resources to ensure these criminals are brought to justice.”

If the defendants are convicted, they each face up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Wrongful Death Second Suspect Charged in Fatal Lima Drive Shooting

A man recently cleared in one shooting has now been charged with complicity to commit murder in connection with a deadly shooting in Lexington.

19-year-old Lamarius Gates was charged Friday for his alleged role in the February shooting death of Vincenzio Happy along Lima Drive.

Police said they found Vincenzio Happy in his car, badly wounded on Feb. 9 in the parking lot of a strip mall at the intersection of Lima Drive and Georgetown Street, where they say they also found 10-12 shell casings on the ground.

In May, 22-year-old Jayronn Montero Nickerson, also knows as “Project,” was arrested in Michigan in connection to the shooting. He is charged with murder and a probation violation.

Earlier this month, Lexington police dropped charges against Gates and another man in connection with a shooting outside of a convenience store in June. After a warrant was issued, police dropped the charges after they said they obtained new information in the case.

Gates is expected to face a judge Friday afternoon for a different case: police say they found him and a stolen gun at the scene of a shooting on May 31 when a man was shot in the Hallway of the Clarion Hotel off Newtown Pike. Police say Gates was picked up Thursday for this most recent shooting after fleeing a traffic stop. He is charged with fleeing and drug charges, plus another charge for that stolen gun.

State Police allegedly found 76 grams of cocaine stashed in a car during a traffic stop on Rte. 1 in Walpole, leading to a drug trafficking arrest.

Police arrested Antonio Deide-Irizarry, 26 of Dorchester, after allegedly noticing signs of illegal drug activity during a traffic stop near Coney Street on Rte. 1 on Monday around 4:30 p.m. A drug-sniffing dog reportedly alerted State Troopers Jay Vital and David Bouchard of the drugs after the officers say they discovered the driver’s existing trafficking warrant.

Pedophile Tracking 3 Arrested in Great Falls, MT Child Sex Sting

Three central Montana men from small towns face child sex crime charges after allegedly responding to an Internet sting operation conducted by the Great Falls Police Department on Wednesday.

Frederick Day, 34, of Cascade, and Aren Lindquist, 24, of Craig were charged Thursday with attempted prostitution in Cascade County District Court after allegedly agreeing separately to pay for sex acts with a 15-year-old girl.

On Tuesday, another man, 59-year-old Curtis Aaberg of Valier was arrested in the same sting operation Tuesday after allegedly trying to pay for sex with a 12-year-old. He is also charged with attempted prostitution.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

According to charging documents, officers working with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force ran an operation structured similarly to the “To Catch a Predator” television program, posting ads on Backpage.com soliciting people interested in sexually explicit conduct with a minor child.

After making contact with people who responded to the advertisement via phone, undercover officers informed them that 12-year-old and 15-year-old girls were available and asked them to meet at a Great Falls motel. At the motel, an undercover officer met the men and negotiated a price.

Day allegedly agreed to pay $200 to commit a sex act with the fictitious 15-year-old. Lindquist allegedly provided an undercover officer with $160 for a planned sex act with the fictitious 15-year-old. Aaberg allegedly attempted to pay $200 for several sex acts with the fictitious 12-year-old.

Each man was arrested after the sex act was stated and money exchanged, court documents say.

Aaberg, a Valier business owner, made his initial court appearance Wednesday. Day and Lindquist were set to make theirs Thursday afternoon.

Under state law, paying for a sex act or agreeing to pay for a sex act with a child when an offender is over 18 years of age carries a mandatory 25-year prison sentence, with an additional 75 years to be served in prison or on probation.
