Wrongful Death Trial Date Set for Woman Accused of Leaving Dead Newborn in Trash Can

A judge has set a trial date for a woman charged with killing her newborn baby and leaving the child’s body in a department store trash can.

Jessica Price – who pleaded not guilty to murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse – will go to trial on Dec. 2.

Police say the 21-year-old gave birth at the Kohl’s in Hillview in Bullitt County on Aug. 8 during her shift and left the newborn’s body in the trash can before going home.

Price had initially told police the baby was not breathing when she was born. However, police have said the girl was born at full term, and an autopsy found air in the infant’s lungs, which suggested it would have been breathing. Another Kohl’s employee told police she heard a baby crying in the restroom that day.

Price told police in January during a second interview that she may have suffocated the newborn.

She told police during a three-hour interview in September she learned she was pregnant only one month before giving birth and that when she delivered her daughter, she thought she’d miscarried.

“I found out about a month ago; I had my period the entire time,” she said. “I have had a miscarriage before and it did the same thing, I just was home at the time when I lost the baby last time.”

Price admitted trying to clean the baby off with paper towels and then throwing her newborn daughter in the trash can.

“I picked it up and it wasn’t moving, it wasn’t breathing, and the umbilical cord had already separated and I panicked, I got scared,” she said.

Detective: “And what did you do next?”

Price: “I got the trash bag and I put it in there.”

Price said she could not come up with an answer as to why she did not seek medical attention.

Price has entered a not guilty plea to murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. She’s on home incarceration awaiting trial.

Wrongful Death Woman Sentenced in Stabbing Death of Wolfe County Man

A woman who police say helped kill a Wolfe County man in 2010 was formally sentenced Thursday.

Despite testimony from the daughter of murder victim Robert Bryant, the judge accepted a plea deal before Rebecca Wright’s case went to trial.

Wright pleaded guilty to murder charges and was sentenced to 24 years in prison. The robbery and tampering with physical evidence charges against her were dropped. She could have faced 40 years in prison had her case gone to trial.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Wright’s ex-boyfriend and the victim’s cousin, Lloyd Bryant, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the robbery and murder.

Lloyd Bryant pleaded guilty to murder and other charges in the violent stabbing death of his 44-year-old cousin in 2010, with whom Lloyd was living with at the time.

Three months after Robert let Lloyd live with him, police say Lloyd and his then-girlfriend, Rebecca Wright, turned on Robert, stabbing him at least 15 times and slitting his throat before stealing his vehicle.

Wright watched Thursday morning in court as her victims’ daughter testified.

Andrea Bryant, at times directing her testimony at Wright, said she believed both suspects deserved capital punishment, especially since, in her eyes, neither showed any remorse.

“I want her to look at me and see that it’s not for show. I’m here because I cared about my dad. And she took a very very big part of our family when she took him,” Andrea said.

The family of the victim says they are disappointed by the outcome.

“Lloyd Junior got 40 years and she got 24? And there are two weapons and they should both have got the same thing, which is what we wanted,” said Carolyn Baker, Robert’s mother, in an interview with LEX 18 in March, when the family found out about the deal.

Wrongful Death Carroll County Couple Indicted in Toddler’s Murder

A Carroll County couple was indicted by a grand jury Thursday in the murder of their toddler son.

Douglas Allen, 26, and Amanda Foster, 28, have been indicted in the Feb. 19 death of their 2-year-old son, who had extremely high levels of Oxycodone in his system at the time of his death, according to the Carroll County coroner.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police say Foster called 911 the morning of Feb. 19 telling dispatchers she had found her son unresponsive in his bed. A toxicology report showed extremely high levels of Oxycodone caused the child’s death.

Detectives believe it was Allen who allegedly gave his son a Schedule II narcotic the night before the boy died. Allen was arrested at the Kentucky State Police post in Campbellsburg during interrogation that same day, and later charged with murder. Foster was arrested at her home on April 1 on charges of criminal abuse and transfer of a controlled substance to a minor.

They were both indicted on Thursday on charges of murder, three counts of criminal abuse first, two counts of transferring a controlled substance to a minor, tampering with physical evidence, trafficking in a controlled substance first, and trafficking in a controlled substance second.

The grand jury also returned an indictment against Paul Byers, 50, in connection with the case. Byers was indicted on charges of tampering with physical evidence, trafficking in a controlled substance first, and trafficking in a controlled substance second.

Police did not release any other information on how Byers was related to the case.

Both parents are being held in the Carroll County Detention Center.
