Wrongful Death Ventnor, NJ Woman Indicted in Husband’s Death

A Ventnor woman has been indicted for the 2007 murder of her husband, announced Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.

On Tuesday, 62-year-old Loretta Doyle Burroughs was indicted for murder and hindering her own apprehension in connection with stabbing death of her husband, 66-year-old Daniel Burroughs.

Daniel Burroughs was reported missing in September 2007, when the couple lived in Mays Landing.

While authorities investigated the case at the time, it eventually went cold.

In February 2013, a family member of Daniel Burroughs contacted the Atlantic City Cold Case Unit, and the case was reopened.

Authorities searched Loretta Burroughs’ Ventnor home in May 2013, where they found human remains inside a closet that were positively identified as Daniel Burroughs (See Previous Story).

Authorities say that following the disappearance of her husband, Loretta Burroughs moved to Ventnor. She was in the process of selling her Ventnor home to move to Cape May County.

Loretta Burroughs was arrested at the Cape May County residence and charged with murder.

She remains lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $2 million bail.

Wrongful Death Novato, CA Police ID Homicide Victim

A homicide victim whose body was found in Novato over the weekend was identified as a 29-year-old Novato man, police said.

The body of Jimmy Lucero Tejada was discovered at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday by an off-duty firefighter hiking in the open space area near Calle Arboleda, a residential street near Alameda del Prado and Ignacio Boulevard.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Tejada had a history of gang-related violence, according to court records, but police did not say whether they suspect his killing to be gang-related.

“We are investigating all potential leads and exploring all possibilities,” said Novato police Lt. Jennifer Welch.

Novato police also did not disclose the nature of Tejada’s injuries. The Marin County coroner’s division is also investigating the circumstances of the death.

Investigators released a police sketch of a possible suspect and offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to his identification. Police said the man could be from a Central American country.

Anyone with information can call the Novato Police Department at 899-7032. Welch said there is “no apparent threat to the community at this time.”

According to court records, Tejada was born in Los Angeles and spent most of his life in the Bay Area, with prior residences in San Rafael and Richmond. He was married.

In recent years, he was convicted of a gang-related knife assault in San Rafael, an attack on another inmate at the Marin County Jail and a domestic violence incident. At one point he was ordered to be registered as a gang member.

Deputy Public Defender Pedro Oliveros said Tejeda had worked to put his gang life behind him and was performing well, including enrollment in automotive classes at College of Marin in Novato.

Novato investigators released a police sketch of a possible suspect in the slaying of Jimmy Tejada, 29, whose body was found April 5, 2014.

Arson Investigation State Street House Fire

Fire investigators say the fire that burned through a vacant house on State Street Tuesday morning was intentionally set.

Two people driving along the street spotted the fire and called 911 just before 5 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the first floor was fully engulfed. Crews contained the blaze to the first floor.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

There were no reported injuries.

Police estimate between 4,000 and 5,000 people packed State Street after the NCAA Championship game, but the crowds had cleared the area at the time of the house fire. Officials say they can’t say whether or not the fire was connected to the postgame chaos.

Missing Person Man Id’d in DC Case and Questioned

D.C. police say they have identified the man in a video released last week who was sought by authorities in connection with the case of missing 8-year-old Relisha Rudd.

Police say the man has been interviewed and is cooperating with the investigation, but they have not learned any new information about Rudd’s whereabouts.

Rudd has been missing since March 1 and an Amber Alert was issued for Rudd on March 20. She was last seen with Khalil Tatum, a janitor at a D.C. homeless shelter where Rudd was living with her family.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Tatum was charged with killing his wife, 51-year-old Andrea Tatum, whose body was found on March 20 in a motel room in Oxon Hill, Md. Officers found her body while they were searching for Rudd. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Authorities performed a week-long search for Rudd at Kenilworth Park, which ended last Thursday. Tatum’s body was found last Monday inside an equipment shed on the grounds of the park. Police say his death was a suicide.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Tatum purchased a carton of 43-gallon self-tying black trash bags on March 2, and later was in the area of the aquatic gardens in Kenilworth Park for a period of time. After that, Lanier said Tatum was going to work and was seen in D.C. through March 20, but Relisha was not seen.

D.C. officials also announced that Tatum had posed as Relisha’s doctor, taking calls from her elementary school teacher and telling them the little girl was sick. Officials familiar with the investigation say Rudd’s mother, grandmother and Tatum were all working together in an effort to fool teachers and administrators at Payne Elementary School into believing the 8-year-old was not coming to school because she was sick.

“He basically assured the school the child had been ill and gave some detailed information around that,” said Bebe Otero, the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services.

Administration officials not authorized to speak on the record said Rudd’s grandmother and mother gave Tatum’s phone number to the school claiming he was the girl’s doctor.

Relisha is described as a black girl, weighing about 70 to 80 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.

If you have any information on Rudd’s whereabouts, you are asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099. You can also text your tip to their text tip line at 50411.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the location and return of Relisha Rudd. If you see her, call 911 immediately. You may also call the FBI at (800) CALL-FBI.
