Insurance Fraud 22 Charged in FL Homeowners Insurance Scam

A licensed public adjuster is alleged to have been the ringleader in a major fraud involving 22 individuals that staged fires and floods at South Florida homes to collect at least $7.6 million in claims from insurance companies.

The public adjuster, Jorge Fausto Espinosa Sr., 58, used his position representing people pursuing damage claims with their insurers to fleece companies out of at least $7.6 million, according to Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.

The law enforcement operation was dubbed, “Flames and Floods.”

Officials say Espinosa used associates to recruit homeowners into the fraud, promising a split of the claim. He is facing a racketeering charge that carries a maximum 30-year prison sentence as well as arson, grand theft and conspiracy. Others involved in the scheme are facing similar charges, including grand theft, insurance fraud and arson.

The case involves 17 separate fraudulent insurance claims in the Miami area and in Lee and Collier counties, according to a detective’s affidavit.

Private Detective Death Investigation After Woman Found Between 2 Cars In Lexington

Lexington Police say an autopsy will reveal exactly how a woman died and how long she had been dead after she was found at the parking lot of a Lexington apartment complex Monday.

The woman’s body was discovered in between two cars in the parking lot of The Village apartments on South Locust Hill Drive near the Walmart off Richmond Road around 9:00 Monday morning.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office said it appears to be a natural or accidental death. Police say an autopsy will determine how long the woman had been outside and a cause of death. Homicide detectives were also on scene, which is standard procedure in a death investigation.

Lexington Police said a FedEx delivery driver first noticed the woman down between two cars and then asked for the help of two men working for a moving company to check a little closer. One of the men said they tried getting the woman’s attention and when that didn’t work, they reached down to check and realized there was no response at all coming from her. They called 911 and the fire department responded, confirming she was, in fact, deceased.

There were reports from witnesses who saw her out walking around Sunday night.

The scene has since been cleared.

Are Interviews Important in an investigation?

Interviews ARE important. How do we get our “breaking intelligence” to solve cases? In most cases, it is simply interviewing everyone, and seeing what comes out in the end. Important not to establish judgement without all of the interviews and facts being gathered.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

In one most recent case, it was the boyfriend of the 5th neighbor who was interviewed who called 2 days later and gave us the ” anonymous tip”  that solved a three year old mysterious death case. He didn’t say two words during the interview and was not even present at the time of the incident. He did however have the inside track on what happened through years of communication with the Subject and their circle of influence. Interview everyone , and some folks twice.

Missing Person Death of Missing Colorado Woman Ruled Suicide

After weeks of searching, a missing person investigation came to a tragic conclusion after a body was discovered Thursday along with the missing woman’s backpack and ID.

Police say Leanne Bearden killed herself.

Bearden, 33, went for a walk on Jan. 17, and never came back. She was visiting her in-laws in Garden Ridge, Texas, just outside of San Antonio. For weeks, authorities and family-organized search parties combed the area, but found no sign of her.

Her family began considering the possibility that Bearden, who had just returned from a two-year trip around the world, may have gotten stressed transitioning back to her stateside life and taken off voluntarily to decompress.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“The pressure of transitioning from her two-year trip back into what we consider ‘normal’ life seems to have left her very anxious and stressed,” the family said in a statement posted on Facebook Jan. 30. “As a result of this investigation there is evidence that Leanne may have voluntarily left the area, and we understand this is a strong possibility.”

But Thursday, a man found a woman’s body in the wooded area behind his home–just a few blocks from the home of Bearden’s in-laws. The body was hanging in a tree. Investigators were able to identify the body by the belongings with it, including Bearden’s ID card.

Friday, the Garden Ridge Police Department released the results of the autopsy.

“Bearden’s preliminary cause of death result is asphyxiation by hanging,” Police Chief Donna O’Conner said in a statement.

The family issued a statement Thursday night:

Our family is understandably devastated by the news of the recovery of the remains of our beloved Leanne. We wish to thank the myriad of people who helped us search for Leanne and who supported us during this entire nightmare. We also wish to thank the members of the media who helped us tell our story. We thank the Garden Ridge Police Department and the other many agencies that provided such caring service to us. We especially thank the Heidi Search Center for their wonderful help and support. Although this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we draw comfort and strength from the outpouring of prayers, actions, and good wishes from all, including over 20,000 Facebook friends. We ask your continued prayers and good wishes for our family. Leanne was a lovely and remarkable young woman, and we will all miss her greatly.

Private Detective Security Guard Charged with Bomb Threat

Police in Pulaski County say the security guard who found a bomb threat was actually the author of that threat.

Christopher Dawes is charged with terroristic threatening and falsely reporting an incident.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Police say Dawes is the person who wrote a note claiming there was a bomb on the roof of UGN last weekend. Investigators say security video showed Dawes is the only person who could have placed the note where it was found, and a handwriting analyst says the writing on that note matches Dawes’ handwriting.
