Witnesses said they heard as many as six shots fired. Police say they believe a group of three to six teens took off running after the shooting. Officers took one juvenile into custody for questioning, putting him in a cruiser in handcuffs.

“We did recover one weapon,” LMPD Sgt. Robert Biven said. “We do believe that was the weapon that was utilized, but we will test that and make sure that’s the case.”

Police say they took two other boys into custody for questioning, but have not made any arrests.

“We know that there are multiple witnesses. We don’t know how many played a part in the shooting, but we are being told there was at least a group of what appeared to be juveniles at the location where the shots were fired, so we certainly want to locate them and see what role they played,” Biven said.

Missing Person Leanne Hecht Bearden Last Seen in Garden Ridge, TX

It has been three days since a former Roswell resident’s family has seen her. Leanne Hecht Bearden, 33, left her in-laws home in Garden Ridge, TX last Friday and never returned.

Bearden grew up in Roswell, graduated from Roswell High School in 1988. Her disappearance is on the minds of many family and friends who live here, even though she now lives in Colorado.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Bearden and her husband Joshua spent the past two years travelling around the world. After returning to the United States, they stopped and her husband’s family home in Garden Ridge. They were planning on returning to their home in Colorado on Tuesday. But those plans may have to be changed. “I knew after three hours that something was really, really wrong,” Joshua Bearden said.

He said his wife told him she was going out for a walk last Friday afternoon. She left her in-laws home with about $60 and some credit cards, according to her husband. “She had her credit cards and I’m staying up all night hitting the refresh button just hoping that I’ll have a credit card charge,” he said.

Leanne’s close family from Roswell is in Texas and several family members and friends have spent parts of the past three days searching for her.

Her friends back in Roswell have created a Facebook page, “Our Friend Leanne Hecht Bearden,” to share information about the latest news in her disappearance.

Law enforcement officials in Texas have no active searches for her and have no reason to suspect foul play at this point. They say she has been listed as a missing person.

Joshua Bearden said police told him his wife left of her own free will. “She left on her own free will, that’s absolutely true, she did,” he said. “But what happened after she left the house on her own free will, I don’t know.”

Leanne Bearden’s friends in Roswell said they have been asked by family members not to speak to the media. They have been told the family wants to make sure only accurate information is released about her disappearance.

Identity Theft and Wi-Fi Hotspots

Kent Lawson with Private Communications Corporation says there’s a general rule of thumb in determining whether a public Wi-Fi connection is secure.

“The best rule of thumb is to know that’s it’s not secure. Because virtually all public Wi-Fi is completely open and completely vulnerable to a wide variety of hacks, and you should simply assume that public Wi-Fi is a very, very … it’s like shouting from a rooftop. Public Wi-Fi is a completely insecure environment.”

Lawson says while hackers may not be able to get in and look around in your computer, they can capture everything that’s transmitted.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

“Wi-Fi is just radio waves, after all. It’s just like your station! Anybody with a radio receiver can get this interview, and similarly, anybody who is sitting within radio range of a Wi-Fi hotspot could intercept everything that’s being transmitted. There are a couple of classic ways of doing it: one is called sniffing, where you listen to all the communications that go on in a Wi-Fi hotspot. Another technique is called a rogue hotspot where somebody sets up what seems to be a reasonable-sounding hotspot name — something like FreeO’Hare Wi-Fi or something like that. Everything that’s being transmitted can be intercepted and stored on somebody’s computer for later analysis.”

That data can be scanned for credit card numbers, social security numbers, names, addresses and phone numbers. Lawson says public Wi-Fi is here to stay, but it’s up to users to protect themselves. And it’s more than just having the correct settings on your mobile device.

“Probably most people already have anti-virus and firewall on their devices. Unfortunately, that software really just protects the device. It does not protect the communications. And in order to protect the communications, you need to have what’s called a personal VPN, or Virtual Private Network, which is a service that you can utilize to protect your communications in Wi-Fi hotspots.”

A VPN encrypts data to and from your device, through a third-party server. Lawson says he’d love to see that kind of protection built in to new devices.

“It’s interesting you say that. Yes, we are talking to a number of different manufacturers about doing exactly that. But for now, it’s the individual’s responsibility to protect themselves. And they can’t rely on the hotspot, they can’t rely on the web site they visit. They need to protect their own communications using a VPN.”

VPN protocols are available for most platforms, and many have VPN support built-in. Additionally, double-check the settings on your device. Make sure your firewall is enabled. In fact, Windows will enable its firewall settings by default if you tell it to during set up. Turn off all sharing. And keep your software updated.

Private Detective Man Wanted for Kidnapping and Rape in Lexington

The man accused of kidnapping a stranger from a Lexington gas station then sexually assaulting her is still on the run more than a month after that frightening attack.

But the hunt for Parico Coffey continues. He’s considered armed, dangerous and desperate. The last time police saw the 22-year-old was Dec. 17 when he was captured on surveillance video just moments before police say he kidnapped then raped an unsuspecting woman at the Alexandria Drive Speedway.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Police think Coffey and another man, Dexter Watson, worked together, though Watson was picked up on other charges.

Coffey is accused of abducting the woman he didn’t know, then raping her before she escaped with his gun, only wearing socks and banging on doors for help on Bordeaux Drive.

“It makes you really nervous thinking he could be walking around,” said Staci Mackto who lives in the Bordeaux Drive area. “Who knows if he is here or somewhere else. He could do it again and that’s scary.”

Coffey may have been in jail the day of December attack, if a judge hadn’t probated him two years on a theft conviction in February of 2013.

If you have any information on Parico Coffey’s whereabouts, call Lexington Police immediately.

The girl told police that she had engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex with Sykes numerous times during their 3-year-relationship. She also provided police with letters from Sykes which mention him taking her virginity and mentioned their sexual activities.

Then in September 2012 a second girl, who was 13-years-old, told Bedford Police she had intercourse with Sykes. The girl told police that in August 2012, she spent the night with her friend mentioned above. The girls says they had allowed Sykes to sneak into the home. When the first victim fell asleep, Sykes started texting the second girl asking to have sex with her and the girl did.
