Missing Person Matthew Straton of Rochester, NY

Friends and family of a missing man searched for him Sunday morning.

Matthew Straton, 31, of Rochester was last seen nearly two weeks ago. People searched around the Genesee River Gorge Sunday.

This is where the Straton family’s search for answers begins.

“Matt not the type of person that would take off. Something’s happened to him,” said Kym Straton, Matt’s mother.

The last 13 days have been heartbreaking for Kym.

“I just want his face out there. I need information. I need to know where he his.”

On October 18th a neighbor saw her son leave his Tyler street home. He hasn’t been seen since.

Sunday morning dozens of volunteers answered a Facebook call for help to look for Matt near Maplewood Rose Garden Park.

In these groups, are family, friends, even strangers.

“I have a lot of children myself. I have five total so I just couldn’t imagine or fathom that something like this could happen,” said Steve Burley, volunteer.

Volunteers will be searching high and low for Straton. They’re gonna tackle a six to ten mile radius that starts at the Genesee River Gorge.

“I started putting this together and we are looking at a probably a 100 people that are going to be coming and showing their support today and helping us find Matt. I just want a safe return for Matt,” said Gary Cole, Search organizer.

Kym admits Matt has had his struggles in the past, like depression and hanging out with the wrong crowds.

“If something happened to him. God willing he’s not down there. This is why we are searching the river right now,” said Kym.

Police are still investigating this missing person’s case and they encourage anyone with any information to call 911.

Wrongful Death Composite Sketch Released in Lexington Homicide

Lexington police have released a composite sketch of someone they want to speak to in connection with an assault at a Lexington home on Friday that is now being investigated as a homicide after the victim passed away.

The victim, 74-year-old Tom Rogers, was discovered by his wife. He passed away Friday night at UK Hospital. Crime scene detectives were at a home on Tishoff Drive most of Friday night, and returned early Saturday morning to continue the investigation into what lead to the crime. Police say there is no sign of forcible entry, and that several valuable items are missing.

“He had been there for quite some time and I just maybe saw him occasionally come out and check his mailbox, just normal everyday activities,” says Benjamin, a neighbor who did not want to provide his last name.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, police got a 911 call. When they showed up, they found Rogers suffering from what appeared to be assault wounds. He was taken to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but according to the coroner’s report, he was pronounced dead moments after arriving.

“It is very shocking,” says Benjamin.

Detectives continue to investigate what happened, hoping to figure out who killed Rogers and why.

“We would all like to know everyone is concerned, concerned for him and his family and it is a tragic situation,” says Benjamin.

Wrongful Death 5 Year Old Found Dead in Fire was Drowned by Mother

A 5-year-old found dead in a burning apartment last week was drowned by his mother, Colorado Springs police announced Sunday evening. The child’s mother has been arrested for first-degree murder.

Firefighters and police responded to a fire in a unit at the Hill Park Apartments at 4320 East Pikes Peak Avenue just after 9:00 Friday morning. A 5-year-old died following the fire and a woman was hospitalized with injuries. Sunday evening, police announced that an autopsy found the child, Jude Marray-Gomez, died as a result of drowning rather than from the fire and that the woman, the child’s mother, Shannon Dodson, 42, had been arrested for first degree murder. Dodson is being held without bond at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

A cause for the fire has not been announced, however firefighters had said previously that it began on a mattress in the bedroom of the apartment. Police say other charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

Wrongful Death Update on Fatal Hit and Run

More information is coming out about the fatal accident in Louisville Saturday.

Louisville Police say 25-year-old Brandon Grigsby was killed Saturday morning in a crash involving an SUV, that much has been clear from the start. But initial reports stated that a Hummer hit Grigsby’s motorcycle and just kept going, even with the motorcycle lodged under the car.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Now investigators say Grigsby lost control of the bike, crashed into a guard rail, was thrown from the bike and landed in the road. Police say that’s when the Hummer ran over Grigsby and the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was found several miles away.

Investigators have been in contact with the owner of the Hummer but still aren’t sure who may have been driving at the time of the accident.

No arrests have been made.

Wrongful Death 4 Year Old Girl in Columbus, OH Was Beat to Death

An autopsy has confirmed that a 4-year-old girl was beaten to death last week, and Columbus police say they will file a murder charge against a suspect who is in custody.

Layla Malone died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, a day after she was taken there from an apartment at 5314 Caleb Dr., near Bethel Road on the Northwest Side.

Michael McDaniel, 28, who lived at that address, was charged on Thursday with felonious assault and jailed in lieu of a $1 million bond. Police said McDaniel, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, severely injured the girl sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Now that Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak has ruled the girl’s death a homicide, detectives will amend the assault charge filed against McDaniel to a murder charge within days, police said.

McDaniel was still in Franklin County’s Downtown jail last night.

Wrongful Death Man Arrested in Black Forest Shootings

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with three shootings, two of them fatal, that occurred early Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kenneth “Tex” Lankford, who they have identified as a person of interest, Sunday morning about 7:30 a.m., according to KRDO, News Channel 13.

One of the dead is Kenneth Lankford’s wife, Terry Thoke Trout, according to her mother, Clara Trout.

“It’s just a bad deal all around,” said Lankford’s father, Troy Lankford, 66.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The Sheriff’s Office couldn’t be reached for comment.

Authorities have not divulged much about the crimes and have been careful about identifying a possible suspect.

On Saturday they said they wanted to speak with a “person of interest,” Lankford, 47, who has a connection to one of the homes. They did not specify the connection.

Lankford has a criminal record in three states and was out on a $1,000 bond on several charges, including drug possession with intent to distribute and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. He was also charged Oct. 17 with owning a dangerous dog that caused injury or death.

Lankford also owned a home on Shoup Road in Black Forest that was destroyed in this summer’s wildfire. Records indicate he lived there with Terry Thoke Trout.

The two are married, said Troy Lankford.

Authorities haven’t released names of the victims.

At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, a 911 call came from 11725 Timberlane Court in Black Forest, with the homeowner reporting he had been shot in the face by an intruder.

According to records, the home is owned by Thomas and Carol Fowler.

The other crime scene was 6685 Burrows Road, about 5 miles east of the Timberline residence.

Neighbors on Burrows Road told reporters from KMGH News that a man named Ken lived at that residence with his wife or girlfriend and had moved there after the Black Forest fire. They told the TV station he occasionally slept in a tent on the property.

Lankford, who grew up in Texas and Utah, first went to jail when he was 19, and has been in and out of jail ever since, said his uncle, Norce Lankford, 62, of Longview, Texas. The younger Lankford, who grew up in Texas and Utah, according to his father, was arrested for numerous charges including selling drugs, burglary, theft, forgery, assault and aggravated assault.

“He cannot come here, absolutely, Norce Lankford said by phone Saturday. “I’m from Texas. If he pulls a gun out here, I’m going to have fun.”

Still, his uncle said, Kenneth Lankford, has one of the biggest hearts and will do anything for people.

“He was a good boy,” said Troy Lankford.

Norce Lankford said that his nephew has been running a pawn shop in Colorado Springs. “When he got on drugs he had a very hot temper,” Norce Lankford said. “He’s from Texas. When you want to get after it, we do it.”

Wrongful Death Motorcyclist Killed in Hit and Run

Police were looking Saturday night for the driver of a Hummer that fatally struck a motorcyclist early Saturday morning, then left the scene and drove with the motorcycle lodged beneath it for four or five miles.

The motorcyclist, a man wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene, said Alicia Smiley, spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Deputy Coroner Larry Carroll identified the victim as Brandon Grigsby, 25, of Irvington, Ky., in Breckinridge County.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The collision occurred shortly before 5 a.m. at Blue Lick Road and Oak Leaf Lane, Smiley said.

Carroll said he pronounced Grigsby dead at 7:18 a.m. He said he was killed by blunt force trauma.

Witnesses described the Hummer as “dark-colored,” Smiley said. Witnesses also told police the motorcycle became stuck beneath the Hummer and dislodged about four or five miles away from the wreck.
