Missing Person Body of Akron Boy Found Near Creek

Police have confirmed that the body of 12-year-old Nic Shaffer has been found near where he fell into a creek days ago.

Search and rescue crews found his body while searching near Mud Creek in Akron on Sunday.

The search for Nic Shaffer began when he fell or slipped into the water and was swept away in Mud Creek while with his mother and sister.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Nic, who is autistic, was wearing shorts but no shirt when he went into the water.

Normally the creek is about ankle-deep but was considerably higher due to recent rainfall. The water was also moving much faster than usual.

The creek is located behind the home where Nic lived.

His family released the following statement:

“We would like to thank the search and rescue crews and all of the communities that came together and worked so hard to find Nic. Being able to lay him to rest has brought us a certain amount of closure.

We are also grateful to all of our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers who have kept Nic and our family in their thoughts and prayers. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we have received.

While Nic could not speak he always found ways to express his love for the people around him; he will be dearly missed.”

Private Detective KY Woman Using Facebook to Reunite Pets

When Ritz disappeared from his Lexington home, owner Cameron Nichols took to a specialized Facebook page, hoping friends and neighbors could help find the Hungarian Vizsla.

After Nichols’ post was shared more than 100 times, Ritz the dog returned to his owner less than 24 hours later.

Nichols relied on help from users of a page called “Lost and Found Pets of Lexington, KY.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The page, which has received more than 2,250 likes since its launch on Dec. 31, is the brainchild of Debbie Wimsatt of Lexington, a self-described stay-at-home mom who has been rescuing animals for the last 20 years.

“I felt as though the animals didn’t have a voice,” Wimsatt said.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported (http://bit.ly/15atZpN ) that the page has resulted in at least 25 pets being reunited with their owners.

Users can post photos of their missing pets and ask the community to help find them. People also post photos of animals they’ve found in their neighborhood in efforts to get the pet home.

The first dog Wimsatt ever rescued was a farm dog on the side of the road in Cincinnati during a snowstorm. Wimsatt said she couldn’t bear to leave the dog there to die, and ever since, she felt as though God had blessed her so much that she had an obligation to give back.

Wimsatt spends 6 to 7 hours a day updating the page and helping followers understand what will happen to stray animals if they’re not claimed. By law, animal control is only required to hold stray dogs for five days and cats for three.

“There is very limited space at the Humane Society, so they are forced to put animals down,” Wimsatt said.

Wimsatt advocates for owners embedding microchips containing contact information that can be scanned under the skin of animals. Wimsatt said the practice results in a quicker and easier return of pets to their owners.

And as a couple dozen people have found, Facebook works too.

“Thank goodness that I have not had to make a lost/missing post for my ‘furkids,’ but because of this page I know that if I did, that I would know where to turn for help,” said Shelly Ross in a posting on the Facebook page.”

“Even if the page only reunites one dog to its owner, it’s done its job,” Wimsatt said.

Ritz, as it turns out, is one of many.

“We’re glad to have her home,” Nichols said with Ritz at his side.

Arson Investigation 5 Dead in Braken County Fire

Police say a fire in Bracken County has claimed at least five lives.

The fire started just after 4:00 Saturday morning. Crews say several units responded to what was being called a very intense blaze. So far, five people have been confirmed dead and in a small town like Brookesville, where everyone knows everyone, this tragedy is really taking a toll.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

“We are hearing up to 7 people were inside the residence, we don’t know if all were inside at the time. We are interviewing neighbors trying to find out how many were there at the time of the fire,” says Trooper David Jones with Kentucky State Police.

Police say one man was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital. Police say a man, a woman and four children and one other person lived in the house. They now fear that a mother and her four children are dead. Investigators spent all day at the home, trying to figure out where the fire could have possibly started.

“The structure has burnt completely, some of the framework is still up, you have a tall chimney that is still there, that we have to take down to get in around it for safety of our arson investigators. With the structure being so burnt we are worried about the floor falling through into the basement and injuring themselves,” says Trooper Jones.

While fire investigators still try to determine the cause, a community is left mourning the loss of five of their own. “It’s a small county, a rural community, everybody knows everyone and it will take a hard toll on everyone here, especially if we do locate children in the residence. This will be a hard week for the county of Bracken,” says Trooper Jones.

Officials have not released any names or ages of the victims, but those around Bracken County believe they know who they are. A prayer vigil will be held Saturday night at 8:30 at Bracken County High School and everyone is invited to attend.

This has been a particularly bad year for multiple fire deaths in Kentucky. In addition to these five in Bracken County, five people died in Pike County, seven died in Knox County and three in a Wayne County fire.

Wrongful Death More Info on Murder/Suicide in Green County

Kentucky State Police Post 15 detectives have determined that the shooting was domestic related and are now working a murder/suicide. Barry Moore, 40, shot and killed his ex-wife, Pamela Moore, 43. The couple was divorced but still living together.

The shooting occurred at a residence owned by 66-year-old Barbara Wright, located just behind the Moore’s residence. Detectives believe that Barry Moore pursued Pamela Moore to the residence where he shot his ex-wife and two other women at the residence. Barbara Wright’s granddaughter, 22-year-old Ashley Wright, was at the residence and was also shot. Barry Moore then turned the weapon on himself and took his own life.

Pamela Moore died at the scene and Barry Moore died later at Green County Hospital. Barbara and Ashley Wright are listed in critical condition at University Hospital in Louisville. Detective Nick Davis is investigating.

PREVIOUS REPORT: (Edited at 4:55 p.m. Friday)

The Kentucky State Police are conducting two shooting investigations — one in Green County and the other near Cave City.

The state police dispatch out of Columbia received a call Friday from the Green County 911 center at approximately 10:35 a.m. A caller advised that there was a shooting at a residence on Ky. 218 and that there were multiple victims.

Trooper Billy Gregory, public information officer for the state police out of Columbia, stated there are one male and one female deceased.

At the same time, the state police out of Bowling Green is working a death investigation in the 6000 block of Mammoth Cave Road near Cave City.

“It does not appear at this time that they are linked in any way,” said Trooper Jonathan Biven, public information officer for the state police out of Bowling Green. “As far as what’s going on with it, we just don’t know yet.”

At least one person is believed to be dead, but Biven would not speculate whether the deceased was male or female. No other information about either death investigation was available. More details are expected later.
