Private Detective 4 Charged in Frankfort for Stealing from Coin Machine

Frankfort police have arrested four people and charged them with stealing money from coin machines.

Police say the investigation started on Tuesday when the owner of the Express Car Wash reported suspects taking money from his coin change machine. When the owner confronted them, they ran. He told police he saw a small grey SUV leave the area moments later.

Officers say they spotted the vehicle driving past as they investigated, and pulled over a gray Hyundai Sante Fe. Investigators say they found evidence in the vehicle and from surveillance video connecting the suspects with the theft. Police say they also discovered paper money folded with clear tape attached to it, along with numerous reels of fishing line, packing tape and super glue. Officers also found a large number of quarters in the SUV.

Police later picked up two other men in Lexington in connection with the case.

Officers arrested Fredlene Goodman, 29, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jonathan Tedder, 28, of Boaz, Ala., and charged them with unlawful use of slugs and theft by unlawful taking from a coin machine, both felony offenses. They also arrested Larry Searce, 35, of Parma, Ohio, and Chad Noureddine, 22, of Christiana, Tenn., and charged them with unlawful use of slugs.

Pedophile Tracking Indiana Man Gets 10 Years

A man caught up in a Purdue University police sting targeting Internet pedophiles received the maximum 10-year sentence Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Senior Judge James T. Moody sentenced Mark Ciesiolka, of Columbus, Ind., on a federal charge of attempted transmission of obscene material to a minor. Ciesiolka pleaded guilty to the charge after winning a new trial on appeal of his original conviction in an online child sex enticement case.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

As part of the Purdue investigation, an officer claiming to be 13-year-old “Ashley” chatted online for more than two weeks with Ciesiolka during August 2006. While the officer told Ciesiolka she was 13, her Yahoo profile showed a photo of a woman in her late 20s, according to court records. When Ciesiolka asked her for a photo, she sent an image of herself, to which he responded that she looked like she was 21. A planned meeting between Ciesiolka and the officer never materialized.

The evidence against Ciesiolka included more than 100 images of alleged child pornography found on his computer and testimony from a woman who claimed he had sex with her several times while she was 15.

Ciesiolka was found guilty of child enticement, but a U.S. federal appeals court judge ruled the police sting was marred by numerous oddities and granted Ciesiolka a new trial. The appeals court ruled the U.S. District Court in Hammond erred in giving jurors “the ostrich instruction”; jurors were told that if a person (Ciesiolka) had a strong suspicion something was not as it seemed, they could determine the person was negligent in not discovering the truth.

Ciesiolka’s 10-year sentence is shorter than the 25-year sentence he received after his initial trial.

Identity Theft Teens’ Nude Photo Posted Online in Extortion

During an ongoing joint investigation by the Jackson Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a 17-year-old male has been charged with two counts each of extortion and identity theft, according to a Wednesday evening joint release from the law enforcement agencies.

The release said after the teen’s mother was notified that he was wanted, he surrendered at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center around noon Tuesday. Following a detention hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court, the teen was released to his parents Tuesday evening and court ordered to have no contact with the victims and restricted from using electronic devices that can access the Internet. A hearing date has not been set.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

In March 2012, a 17-year-old Jackson male reported to Jackson police that he had traded nude photos of himself in exchange for nude photos of a woman. Shortly afterward, the person who the teen was exchanging photos with threatened to publish the teen’s nude photos on the Internet if the teen did not continue to send them.

In the same month, a 12-year-old South Fulton boy reported to the Martin police that he had traded nude photos of himself in exchange for nude photos of a woman, the release said. The 12-year-old was also told that he had to continue to send nude photos of himself or his nude photos would be published on the Internet.

Both the 17-year-old teen and 12-year-old boy refused to meet the demands and had no further contact.

The release said a year later, the 17-year-old teen was contacted by the suspect via text message from an anonymous number and the 12-year-old boy was contacted by the suspect via Facebook. They were both told to send more nude photos or the photos that they had previously sent would be published on the Internet.

When they refused, the suspect created fake Facebook accounts in the two victims’ names, the release said. The suspect then published the nude photos to both Facebook pages by using the victims’ photos that he had possessed since 2012.

Investigators identified a 17-year-old as the suspect. Investigators also determined that he had extorted the youths, created the fake accounts and published their nude photos from his home in Madison County.

Investigators recovered the nude photos from the Internet for evidence, and then contacted Facebook so the photos could be removed.

The release said the two victims do not know each other. Investigators are also exploring the reason why they were chosen. Investigators also learned that the nude photos of the woman that were sent by the suspect were downloaded from a pornographic website.

The District Attorney General’s Office has indicated to police that they intend to file a motion to have the teen tried as an adult.

Identity Theft Fort Campbell Inspector Charged

A former Fort Campbell inspector whose job was to investigate misconduct was charged Wednesday with stealing the identities of Army personnel, including a soldier killed in combat, in a scheme to obtain bank loans, federal authorities said.

A federal grand jury indictment claims that James Robert Jones, 42, of Woodlawn, Tennessee, used his position as an assistant inspector general at the Army post along the Kentucky-Tennessee line to obtain personal information of active-duty Army officers, some of whom were deployed to Afghanistan.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

He allegedly used the information — including Social Security numbers and dates of birth — to apply for loans in the officers’ names, the indictment said. He successfully obtained fraudulent loans from two financial institutions, it said.

Among those targeted was an enlisted soldier who had been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the indictment said.

When confronted by investigators, Jones tried to conceal his role by falsely accusing a deceased Army officer of planning the scheme, according to the indictment.

“This defendant abused a position of trust and used his position to specifically target those who serve our country, including certain officers who were deployed overseas, when he stole their identities,” Acting U.S. Attorney David Rivera said in announcing the indictment.

Jones was indicted on charges of aggravated identity theft, bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution.

He’s also charged with obstructing justice and making false statements to investigators. Those charges stem from allegations that Jones asked a colleague to delete information on his work computer in an alleged effort to impede the investigation, the indictment said.

Fort Campbell spokesman Bob Jenkins said the post was reviewing the indictment and would have no additional comment Wednesday evening.

A number listed for Jones in Woodlawn had been disconnected and no other contact information could immediately be found.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Command.

“The Secret Service remains committed to fighting this type of financial fraud by pursuing individuals who obtain fraudulent loans using stolen identities, especially when the identities belong to members of our armed services,” said Todd Hudson, special agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Nashville.

If convicted, Jones faces up to 30 years in prison for the counts of bank fraud and making a false statement to a bank, along with an additional two years for each count of aggravated identity theft. Jones also faces up to 20 years if convicted of attempting to destroy records and five years for allegedly making false statements to investigators.

Pedophile Tracking PA Man Gets Prison for Computer Files

A western Pennsylvania man must spend nearly 20 years in federal prison for collecting more than 1,000 images of computerized child pornography linked to at least four victims, including a 6-year-old.

Fifty-six-year-old Patrick Kofalt, of Enon Valley, was targeted by federal investigators after the 6-year-old reported being molested in late 2009.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

That led the state police and eventually the FBI to investigate Kofalt, who was found to have the child pornography encrypted and saved on his computers. U.S. Attorney David Hickton says three additional sexual assault victims of Kofalt’s were identified during the course of the investigation.

Kofalt was sentenced Tuesday by a federal judge in Pittsburgh to 19 years, seven months in prison. He had pleaded guilty in December to possessing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.
