Pedophile Tracking Colorado Man Faces Charges After Sting

A northern Colorado man faces federal child sex charges following an Internet sting operation in which a law enforcement agent says the man agreed to pay $200 to have sex with and photograph a 12-year-old girl at a Cheyenne motel.

A criminal complaint unsealed in federal court in Cheyenne on Monday alleges that John Scott Pinkerton, 57, of Pierce responded to an advertisement that a law enforcement agent had placed on the Internet classifieds site Craigslist.

The complaint says the state Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce agent ran an ad on Craigslist under the heading, “Traveling Dad.”

“Showing my bros offspring this wonderful state with so much opportunity for learning,” the ad read. “We are from the south and have never been to the west before but her and I are open to meet new people.”

A response came back on July 2 from a person using the screen name, “Scott,” the complaint states.

“I’d be glad to assist you and your neice (sic) in any way I can,” the response stated in part. “Very respectful of any limits you set but open to most anything except pain.”

The complaint says the agent posing as the girl’s uncle said he needed gas money and the exchange eventually spelled out what sexual activity the girl would be subjected to in exchange for the payment.

“I’d like to take pics of her if I can,” it quotes Pinkerton as saying. “Just depends on her willingness, the more willing the more gas money.”

Officers kept Pinkerton under surveillance on July 3, when he drove from his home in Pierce, Colo., north to Cheyenne, the complaint states. Officers arrested him at a local motel.

“Upon his arrest, Pinkerton was found to be in possession of $200 in twenty dollar bills and a digital camera,” the complaint states. It says Pinkerton agreed to an interview with the agent after his arrest.

“During the course of the interview, Pinkerton admitted that he was the individual that had an email conversation related to traveling to Cheyenne to meet a 12 year old female,” for the purpose of engaging in sex, the complaint states. He said he had intended to take pictures of the girl naked and was carrying cash to pay for the encounter.

Prosecutors have charged Pinkerton with attempted sexual exploitation of a child and online solicitation of a minor. Pinkerton is in custody and faces a detention hearing before a federal magistrate in Cheyenne on Thursday.

Court records don’t reflect that Pinkerton has an attorney yet. John Powell, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cheyenne, said Tuesday the office had no comment on the pending case.

Wrongful Death Brother of Missing CA Boy Arrested After Remains Found

The 16-year-old brother of an 11-year-old autistic boy who disappeared over the weekend from his Southern California home was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge, police said.

During a news conference Wednesday, Capt. John Hill said the body of a boy who fits the description of 11-year-old Terry Smith was found overnight in a “shallow grave containing partially exposed human remains.”

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Investigators were still working to confirm the identity of the remains found Wednesday afternoon.

John Hall, a spokesman the Riverside County District Attorney, has not returned phone or e-mail messages from The (Palm Springs, Calif.) Desert Sun.

The teen, whose name was not released, was the last one to see Terry near his Menifee, Calif., home Saturday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department previously said.

“The brother was walking away from their residence, turns back, sees that Terry’s following him and tells Terry, ‘Hey, go home,'” Deputy Albert Martinez told The Desert Sun this week.

The half-bother — who has the same mom as Terry — has been “questioned several times by investigators,” Martinez said Tuesday afternoon.

“He’s been cooperative throughout the whole time,” the deputy said.

Earlier Wednesday, investigators halted their search and returned to Terry’s home to search for human remains at about 1:30 a.m.

It was the fourth day of a widespread search for the boy, who was identified by police as an autistic boy who was last seen Saturday.

Investigators found “possible human remains” in the dirt not far from the house, and a search warrant was issued at the house late Wednesday morning, said Sgt. Lisa McConnell.

Investigators initially said that Terry “was discovered missing from his residence” sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Terry lived on a short stretch of road in a rural area of Menifee, a city of about 80,000 in southwestern Riverside County, Calif., which is about 80 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

They were “able to verify” Monday that Terry was last seen between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday outside his home, McConnell said.

As the search went on and temperatures peaked above 100 degrees each day, more than 1,000 law enforcement, search and rescue personnel and volunteers flooded into the city to help search.

Searchers canvassed by ATV, bicycle and foot and distributed thousands of fliers. Coordinators set up a Find Terry Smith page on Facebook that garnered more than 25,000 fans.

The volunteer coordinators initially held out hope they would find Terry but announced they called off the search and would now enter a “time of grieving.”

“We want to thank everyone who is following our efforts here and for the thousands of volunteers and businesses that have helped this incredible search effort,” the page administrator posted Wednesday.

“PLEASE REMEMBER that our focus has always been on Terry Smith, an 11 year old boy. Our focus is still on that boy and the memory.”

Accident Reconstruction Lexington Police Id Man in Horrific Crash

Lexington Police say they’ve been able to use fingerprints to ID the man who wrapped himself around a pole Tuesday during a crash in downtown Lexington in which he was driving a stolen SUV.

Police aren’t releasing the 18-year-old’s name yet because his family hasn’t been notified.

The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. when a Lexington Police officer got behind an SUV that had been reported stolen. At the time, it was headed inbound on Versailles Road at Angliana, but as the officer relays in his talks with dispatch the way the man was driving made it a risk to the public to pursue any further.

The end result was a wreck on Maxwell Street and Upper Street, one of more horrific wrecks witnesses to it had ever seen.

While the driver was trying to flee police, he hit another SUV at the intersection and wrapped the stolen Acura around a telephone pole, splitting it. The suv then caught fire. Officers say the man suffered very serious injuries, and the woman in the other SUV was also banged up.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, and Indecent Exposure, 2nd Degree. He is being held in the Laurel County Detention Facility.
