Missing Person Body of Missing 6 Year Old in FL Found

Authorities reportedly have recovered the body of a young boy who disappeared Saturday in the waters off Florida’s western coast.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials found Lamontea Taylor’s body and authorities notified his family on Monday, the Herald-Tribune reports.

Taylor, 6, was swept away Saturday while swimming with his siblings during a family get-together, according to MyFoxTampaBay.com.

“We were having a cook out for the kids and stuff. I just wanted to get out of the house with them,” said his mother, Laketa Taylor.

“We thought they were over there eating at the table with everybody else,” said Shakedrian Outing, Lamontea’s older sister. “When we looked and we were walking, we saw all of them up in the water and … we saw my other brother, Nick, he was screaming, ‘Help!'”

Authorities said the area is a no-swim zone because of its strong currents, and no lifeguard was on duty at the time. Family members and other beachgoers saved three of the children who had gone into the water.

Officials with the Coast Guard, Bradenton Beach Police, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Longboat Key Police Department were among those searching for the child after he disappeared. The search was suspended on Monday.

Missing Person Lamontea Taylor (6) Missing From Coquina Beach, FL

The search for Lamontea Taylor, the 6-year-old officials believe was washed away by a rip current along Coquina Beach, is now being called a recovery effort.

Taylor was at a family cookout when he and his cousins allegedly snuck away, past no swimming signs, and into the water on the edge of Coquina Beach. They were then caught in a rip current that pulled them toward Longboat Pass. Bystanders were able to rescue everyone except Taylor.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“My son came and was like, ‘Um, we tried to get him out of the water,'” says Laketa Taylor, Lamontea’s mother, who thought he was on a playground. “That’s when I noticed he was gone.”

Family members called 911 around 6:30 p.m. The search lasted several hours before the U.S. Coast Guard suspended it after dusk.

“The currents were running south, still today and last night, so we have boats concentrating on the Gulf side and the Bay side from here,” says Sgt. James Gill with the Bradenton Beach Police Department, which is handling the investigation.

Concerned bystanders like Elisha Evangelista started searching too after they heard the news. “We grabbed all the flashlights we could and came down here to see what we could do to help,” she says. “It’s a big deal when a child goes missing. As a community, we should all get together to do what we can to help find that child.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission flew a plane over the area on Saturday and Sunday. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has been using sonar, which gives almost camera-quality images, and is especially helpful in rocky areas.

Law enforcement is asking people on boats on the gulf or bay to keep an eye out.

“I just want them to find him,” Laketa Taylor says. “That way I can get a little closure that he’s not in that water.”

Arson Investigation 65 Homeless After Apartment Fire in Springfield, Mass.

65 people were left homeless Sunday morning after a massive fire destroyed their apartment building at 2964 and 2972 Main Street and 6 Portland Street.

The cause of the fire is believed to be arson.

The 4-story brick building has three different addresses, which shows you just how many people lived in this building.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Aide to the Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News there are 20 apartment units affected by this fire.

The fire started just after 10 o’clock Saturday night, and it took firefighters about 6 hours to put out the fire completely.

There are no injuries. Everyone was able to get out of the building safely, which includes a pitbull puppy that was rescued. However, most residents have lost everything they own.

“She’s sad. She just wants to find somewhere else, but she’s been here so long that that was her comfort zone. She was comfortable there. It’s going to be hard because she has to start all over from scratch.” says Margarita Colon, who lived at 6 Portland Street.

Massive flames and smoke could be seen from across the Connecticut River in West Springfield.

Luis Colon, a Main Street resident, states “What can I say? It is too much. Too much. Overwhelming.”

Luis told 22News he moved in to 2972 Main St. two months ago after escaping a house fire on Grove St.

He said “Twice. It’s crazy. On the same day, the 20th, and around the same time. That’s what’s hurting me. We tried to get this place, make it a place that we can all come together after that first fire, and yet again, we have to deal with it all over again.”

“Kids barefoot. I saw them myself barefooted, and in diapers, with a shirt, with underwear, no shoes. It was crazy.” says Ruthie Santiago, Margita Colon’s stepdaughter told 22News.

Many people said they’ve never seen anything like it before.

After observing the fire, Miguel Villanueva says “This is my first time ever seeing something like this. I hope no one is in there and we’re praying everyone is safe.”

Right now the Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.

Mary Nathan, the Regional Red Cross Response Manager states “The month of April has just been so taxing. It’s the worst April we’ve ever had for fire, and it has really taxed our resources, our human resources, and we are way over what we would normally have budgeted for April.”

Missing Person Laura Ortiz of West Wendover, NV

A West Wendover, Nevada teen is missing after she went to see a man she met online, according to police.

Laura Ortiz was last seen by her family Friday afternoon. West Wendover police said the teen called her mother around 2:00 to tell her she was going to meet a man named Jesus, someone she had met through Facebook. The teen reportedly said she and Jesus were going to begin a new life together.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“Obviously, we’re very concerned about her welfare and where she is,” said West Wendover Sgt. David Wiskerchen.

Police obtained a photo of the man from Facebook and believe he is in his twenties, but have little knowledge of who he is, or how he came into contact with Ortiz. Wiskerchen said that is one of the dangers of meeting someone online. “You have to be extremely careful. This is the day and age when people with bad intentions are getting hold of youths and asking them to do probably unspeakable and criminal things,” he said.

Police had been struggling to find any lead on Ortiz until she called her mother again Saturday from a pre-paid cell phone, claiming she had made her way to Reno, NV and was safe.

Wiskerchen said authorities will need to speak with Ortiz themselves in order to determine if she is ok. “Primarily, we don’t know anything about him. We don’t know what his intentions are,” he said.

Ortiz was last seen wearing white/black striped long sleeve shirt, black pants and white shoes. She is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 150 pounds, brown eyes and brown hair with red highlights.

Ortiz also has the following tattoos:

Tattoo on the left leg: “Brenda”
Tattoo on the right leg: ”Juan”
Tattoo on the right thumb: stars with letters “MP”
Tattoo on the right arm: “Don’t cry over a guy”

Anyone with information on Laura’s whereabouts is asked to call the West Wendover Police Department at (775) 664-4393.
