Wrongful Death Man Charged in Girlfriend’s Death

Nearly a month after a woman died in a northern Kentucky home, deputies have charged her boyfriend with murder.

On June 4, Daniel Vetter, 33, called 911 and reported that his girlfriend had hit her head and wouldn’t wake up. Deputies say Vetter told the 911 operator that he was outside talking with his mother on the phone when Meranda Hobbs, 27, started banging her head on the window and was now unresponsive.

Deputies say they were skeptical of Vetter’s story from the beginning. On Wednesday, deputies served a warrant on Vetter, who was already in jail on a DUI charge. Officials say authorities had been at the home several times before to investigate domestic violence calls.

“We have every reason in the world to believe he allowed her to lay there and her condition to deteriorate to the point of her death for an hour before calling us,” Boone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Major Tom Scheben said.

Deputies charged Vetter with murder, tampering with physical evidence and making a false report.
