Private Detective: Laurel Co. Man Fakes Kidnapping

Deputies in Laurel County say they thought they were responding to an armed kidnapping Wednesday, but now investigators say a man made the entire story up.

Deputies say 19-year-old Eric Young reported that he was kidnapped at gunpoint, triggering a large police response to help him out.

“We put down everything else that we’re doing because this is really bad news if this really happened, but it didn’t happen, so it’s really frustrating to us,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Deputies found Young walking on Tom Cat Trail. They say this is where he pulled out his phone and called 911, saying he escaped his kidnapper.

“This is a major felony he’s talking about. You know, taken at gunpoint and held against your will,” said Acciardo.

Deputies say instead of being kidnapped, Young actually spent a couple days smoking marijuana and meth.

“He was still intoxicated whenever we located him so the incident didn’t even occur.,” said Acciardo.

Deputies took Young to jail. He was charged with public intoxication and falsely reporting an incident.

Missing Person Amber Alert Still Ongoing for TN Teen

The multi-state AMBER Alert for missing 15-year-old freshman Elizabeth Thomas is still ongoing. The teen and her alleged abductor, 50-year-old teacher Tad Cummins, have been missing without a trace for more than a month now.

Jill Cummins, wife to Tad, who filed a divorce from her husband in late March, recently appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to talk about the incident. And while she claimed that she still loves her husband, she also confessed that she could no longer trust him now.

She called her husband selfish for absconding with his student, Elizabeth, and added that she found out Tad was leaving when she discovered his note at home.

“It’s kind of like a death because the Tad I knew is gone,” Jill said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The pair was last seen on March 15 on a surveillance video taken from a Walmart in Oklahoma City but was no longer seen or heard from afterward. A student at the Culleoka Unit School, where Tad formerly worked as a health sciences teacher, claimed to have seen him kissing Elizabeth prior to their initial disappearance on March 13.

A warrant has already been issued for Tad’s arrest on charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that Tad has also been added to the state’s Most Wanted list.

Elizabeth’s father, Anthony Thomas, has also filed a court petition to allow his lawyer to take depositions of people who knew about her daughter’s relationship with her teacher but have been hesitant to cooperate in the ongoing investigation.

Mr. Thomas believes that Tad “groomed” her daughter prior to abducting her. As claimed by the petition, “Cummins preyed upon the child for months on end, nudging and molding her until her will to resist was conflicted and ultimately broken.”

TBI advises anyone who spots either Tad or Elizabeth or both to not approach them, and instead to keep an eye on them while calling 911 or 1-800-TBI-FIND. People have also been advised to be on the lookout for Tad in pharmacies since he will need to refill his blood pressure prescription soon. There is also a possibility that the pair may have already fled to Mexico.

Tad was last spotted driving a silver Nissan Rogue with Tennessee license plate number 976-ZPT, although it is not clear whether he’s still driving this vehicle up to this point.

Missing Person Search Continues for Camas, WA Teen

The Camas Police Department on Wednesday said it’s no closer in finding a teen reported missing last week, and it thanked community members for tips provided.

Cole Burbank, 16, was last seen on surveillance footage April 13 at Camas High School, said Sgt. Scot Boyles. Burbank drove away from the school in a black 2010 Honda Accord with Washington plates AKW3441.

Police have received reports he was seen at Clark College, where he was likely headed for class, but they haven’t visually confirmed he was at the college despite viewing surveillance footage and talking to witnesses, Boyles said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“Unfortunately, at this point, none of the tips have given authorities any information as to Cole’s current whereabouts,” Boyles said in a news release.

His school released surveillance footage showing he wore a plaid, long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a baseball hat. He stands 5 feet 10 inches and weighs about 140 pounds, police have said.

Investigators have received helped from the Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit, which looked for cellular and online clues, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Teams, which have searched many square miles of heavily wooded areas nearby.

A Facebook group created by family and friends has been used to help coordinate volunteer efforts and provide links to GoFundMe website to help the family. Anyone who spots the teen is asked to call 911 right away.

Arson Investigation Taylor Co. Man Accused of Shooting Wife and Setting House on Fire

The man facing attempted murder and arson charges after allegedly firing several gunshots at his wife and starting a house fire was in court Wednesday.

Richard Hord, 54, wanted the $250,000 cash bond lowered at his preliminary hearing, but the judge denied that request.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

A family member of his soon-to-be ex-wife also was there and said she’s recovering from her injuries. Back on April 5, neighbors said they saw Hord and his ex-wife arguing before he fired shots.

She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Some neighbors said they were shocked to hear about the accusations because they viewed Hord as a nice man.

Wrongful Death 4 Indicted in Shooting Death of Pregnant Lexington Woman

A Fayette County grand jury has indicted four men on charges of murder, fetal homicide and robbery in relation to the shooting of a pregnant woman last year.

Skylar Bishop Stigall, Demetrioun Lamar Boaz, Joseph “Jodie” Fain and Saquan Ysai Freeman were indicted earlier this week.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Maryiah Coleman was walking her family’s dog on Winburn Drive when she was shot. She and her unborn son, Jakobe, died at UK Hospital.  Coleman was not the intended recipient of the gunfire. Rather the three men are accused of attempting to rob someone they knew. When the intended victim tried to run, police say the suspects fired several shots and Coleman was hit.

Boaz, Freeman and Fain are also accused in an October shooting on Red Mile Road.

All four men are scheduled to be arraigned April 27.

Missing Person 16 Year Old Cole Burbank of Camas, WA

Michelle and Matt Burbank, the parents of a Camas teen who has been missing since Thursday, wanted to get a message to their son through the media:

“Please let us know you are safe, we are very worried.”

Family members say Cole Burbank, 16, was last seen at Clark College at his 11 a.m. class, and his cell phone was last pinged shortly before 1 p.m.

“Cole, we just want to tell you that we love you very much and we want everything to be okay,” said his father, Matt Burbank. “Whatever is going on in your mind or life, we support you, we are here to help you. The most important thing to know is that you are safe. We are looking forward to you coming home and understand you may want to be with your friends for a while and that is okay.”

His parents, who were emotional in front of reporters outside Camas High School Sunday morning, hinted that he may be out there. His mother, Michelle, said they have heard of some leads that seem promising, but they have not been able to confirm anything.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Since the teenager’s disappearance was announced, hundreds of community members have stepped up.

Volunteers created a Facebook page to coordinate a search effort. As of Sunday afternoon more than 1,500 people were members of the group. Family friend Amy Hoffman says people have been searching as far north as Seattle. She says some have used planes, even drones.

“Thank everyone for helping,” said Michelle Burbank. “We are almost there, I know in my mother’s heart.”

Parents encourage the community to keep bringing leads to Camas Police. They aren’t giving up their search any time soon.

“If anyone else is involved in this situation directly, please reach out to us,” said Matt Burbank. “We will do whatever it takes to bring Cole home. Love, mom and dad.”
