Arson Investigation Fire Destroys Small Business in Anderson County, KY

Investigators said a fire at an Anderson County scrap metal business looks suspicious. The business owner’s daughters, said their father has two problems, finding the person who set the fire and the money to rebuild.

Police said they think someone tried to set a fire at Red’s Welding and Scrap Removal twice in one week. Their first attempt was unsuccessful. The second burned the business to the ground.

“We never dreamed that they would come back a second time. Just never thought that would happen, but when it did it just really devastated everybody. We just can’t understand why somebody would do somebody that way,” said Alice Proctor.

Alice Proctor and Joyce Bast’s family owns the destroyed scrap metal operation. The two sisters grew up watching their parents work hard for every penny earned. Now, in their 60’s Oscar and Joyce Shingleton lost everything. The daughters said Oscar lost his livelihood, how he made his money to pay the bills.

A way of life,up in flames. Tonight all that remained was a smoldering silhouette.

“We don’t understand who would have done this and why, because everybody seems to think so much of him,” stated Joyce Bast.

So the sisters are left to wonder. Why was their family’s business targeted? Who started the fire and how will their parents make ends meet?

“Of course we will all give them anything we got, but we are going above beyond that for our parents, we will do whatever that takes to help them,” explained Bast.

Even if that means going against their father’s wishes and asking for money.

Alice Proctor said her father had insurance, but not very much and certainly not enough to rebuild his business.
