Wrongful Death Mt. Pleasant, MI Woman’s Body Found, Pastor Arrested

Police have arrested a man in connection to a Mt. Pleasant woman who missing on Halloween and was found dead Thursday.

A 55-year-old Mt. Pleasant man was arrested and charged with open murder (felony, life without parole) and first degree homicide-premeditated (felony).

Department of Corrections says that John Douglas White had previously served two years in prison for conviction in the early 1980s of assault with intent to murder in Calhoun County. White also was convicted of manslaughter in Kalamazoo County in 1995 and served 12 years behind bars before being released in 2007.

A pastor at Christ Community Fellowship Church in Mt. Pleasant tells 6 News that White has been a pastor at the church for nearly three years. She says he is well thought of in the community, even going as far as to call into the church for a prayer chain Wednesday when she went missing.

24-year-old Rebekah Jane Gay was last seen just before 7a.m. at her home near M-20 and Coldwater Rd Wednesday. Her car was found parked behind the “The Barn Door.”

Police tell us that Gay was murdered in her home and her body was dumped in a wooded area near Coldwater and Pickard Roads. They are also investigating a separate crime scene where the murder weapons were dumped.

In a news conference, police reported that White admitted to fantasizing about her murder leading up to her death. Investigators said White led them to the body, after originally not cooperating in the investigation.

Rebekah hadn’t had contact with her family or friends since, something they say was not like her and warranted concern about her well being.
