POCOLA — Authorities found the body of a 74-year-old woman missing for several weeks in a dry creek bed on Saturday, her family has confirmed.
Ruby Poole went missing on Oct. 17 after she wandered off from a relative’s home in the eastern Oklahoma town, her daughter, Leslye Burke, said on Sunday. Poole had dementia and required medication.

Burke learned from authorities Saturday evening that her mother’s body had been found in the creek bed in Pocola by an individual walking in the area, she said. A bridge would have obscured the view of drivers looking for Poole, Burke said.
It’s not clear what happened, but foul play doesn’t seem likely, Burke said.
“Nothing was missing, like her jewelry and money,” she said. “Everything seemed to be in tact.”
Burke said police told her “She looked like she just sat down to rest and died.”
Burke described her mother as a loving parent who loved children, and as a devoted Christian who cherished singing at church.
Poole attended Union Baptist Church for decades. Though her memory and health faded over time, she never forgot the songs she sang, Burke said.
“She didn’t know her day of the week but she’d start her day wanting to know if it was Sunday,” Burke said.
