Shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday, firefighters were called to 179 Kilmar St. for the report of a structure fire. The blaze was put out after a short amount of time.
According to firefighters, the preliminary investigation into the blaze revealed that two children, an 11-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister, were in the house at the time of the fire.
Firefighters say the boy helped his sister escape the house by pulling her through a bedroom window and onto the roof of the house garage.
Tavolino is currently being held in Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment.
