WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. — Officials say a specially trained police dog from Wood County is in good health after being on the loose for about a day and a half.
A sheriff’s deputy found the German shepherd named Toro in a wooded area, feeding on a deer carcass about 10:30 a.m. today. The deputy was able to get control of the dog through commands and the leash that was still attached to Toro’s chain collar.
Toro had a small cut on one paw, but a veterinarian checked out the dog and said he’s in excellent health.

The dog bolted from his handlers during a drug search of a vehicle in Portage County. WAOW-TV reports Toro returns to work Friday. The dog has been part of the Wood County Sheriff’s Department for two years.
