Federal prosecutors have charged a 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman with sex trafficking of a child in a case involving a teenager who said they compelled her to work as a prostitute.
Deundrea R. Miller and Brittanie S. Brattain remain in federal custody, according to a news release Tuesday from the U.S. attorney’s office.
According to the prosecutors’ complaint, Miller and Brattain recruited the then-15-year-old girl to work as a prostitute from September 2012 to January. The girl’s activities “were advertised on Backpage.com,” a classified advertising website. She met customers at motels, many off Interstate 35W in south Fort Worth, the complaint says.

The girl “engaged in numerous commercial sex acts during this time and turned over all the money she earned from the prostitution to Miller,” it states.
Federal agents and police started the investigation after contacting the girl when she was in a Tarrant County juvenile detention facility.
The maximum penalty is life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
