Missing Person Search Continues for Missing Iowa Teen

The search continues on Wednesday for an Iowa teen that was allegedly abducted by a man that committed suicide.

On Monday, Kathlynn Shepard, 15, and another unidentified 12-year-old girl were abducted from a Dayton bus stop, after they accepted a ride from a man, according to the 12-year-old girl. The 12-year-old girl managed to escape later that day, but Shepard is still missing.

A man named Patrick told KCCI News he heard a noise like a wounded animal and found a girl crying and she told him that she had escaped from somebody. The girl later told authorities that the man had taken them to an agricultural facility, reports CBS news.

Later that same day, Michael Klunder, 42, a registered sex offender was found dead in a rural Dayton area. Klunder had served time for assaulting a woman and abducting two toddlers from an apartment complex in Charles City, according to the Mason City Globe Gazette. The toddlers were later found in alive in a dumpster.

Shepard’s backpack and purse were found on Tuesday in the 400 block of Pilot Mound and Fraser by a farmer searching his property.

There is speculation whether Klunder was involved in the abduction and murder of two Evandsale girls, Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook. Authorities stated it was too early in the investigation to know.
