The remains of a missing 40-year-old man were found Monday night by a group of kids in north Houston, police said.
The discovery was made around 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Pickering Street.
Police said the man’s remains were badly decomposed and scattered, but evidence at the scene helped them identify the person.
Some of the bones were found in clothing which also had a wallet. Inside the wallet were forms of identification, including the man’s Social Security card.

“It is an individual who is a reported missing person in this area about two, two and a half weeks ago — a black male about 40 years of age,” said Sgt. Robert Torres with the Houston Police Department.
Crime scene investigators combed the ditch and a nearby wooded area overnight to see if there were other remains or traces of evidence as to how the man died.
