Fraud Investigation Man Arrested for Passing Counterfeit Bills

Stanford Police have arrested a man believed to be in a counterfeit money ring.

Police arrested Timothy Poynter, who was charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument. Police say he was at Walmart and tried to use the fake money there. He had the original bills in his pocket and also the counterfeit bills as well.

Madison, Lincoln, Laurel, Casey, Jessamine and Boyle counties are all dealing with the counterfeit ring.

Poynter allowed police to search his house and they found dying products to bleach the money and dry it out. It was set up in the basement like a manufacturing lab.

Police don’t believe Poynter is the only one in the ring, but a major player.
