Arson Investigation Accelerant Found in Burned Out Robertson County School

Investigators looking into the fire that destroyed the Deming School in Robertson County say a dog located accelerant at the front entrance leading inside the building.

A witness spotted flames shooting from the second floor of the Deming School on North Main Street in Mt. Olivet around 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday. Flames spread through the building, leaping high into the air. Firefighters from at least six departments battled the blaze.

The building was closed back in January and was slated for demolition.

Crews tore down the remaining walls on Monday and located a time capsule. They opened it and found a bible, a 1927 newspaper with the names of the 19 teachers who worked at the school, and a hand written letter from the contractor.
