Arson Investigation in Lakewood, CO

Investigators said they are not ruling out arson for the cause of a Lakewood house fire that ignited early Saturday morning.

Around 5 a.m. near 8th and Welch Street, the fire started on the front deck of the house and quickly moved to the attic, according to officials. About 30 firefighters arrived on the scene, and took 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Authorities reported moderate damage to a quarter of the home.

No injuries were reported, but six adults and their pets were displaced from their home. The American Red Cross responded to the victims — the organization plans to provide temporary housing, clothing and comfort kits for the individuals affected by the fire.

As of Saturday afternoon, Doug Hutchinson with West Metro police said both West Metro and Lakewood police are still investigating, and arson investigators have been on the scene.
