Missing Person Golden Alert for Knott County Man

The search is on for a man who walked away from a southeastern Kentucky assisted living facility, and officials in Knott County have issued Golden Alert for Lawrence Mardis.

It’s been almost 24 hours since anyone has seen or heard from Mardis, better known as “Larry.” According to the Knott County Sheriff’s Office, Mardis walked away from Golden Years Rest Home in the Lackey community around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A Golden Alert has been issued for the 49-year-old, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Deputies say Mardis was last seen leaving the Redi Mart in Lackey, walking toward Garrett.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time a Golden Alert has been issued for Mardis. This same time last year, officials say Mardis walked away from a Pendleton County nursing home. He was later found safe in a Covington grocery store.
