A woman was arrested Tuesday after police say she was illegally soliciting donations to help in the search for a missing Madison County teen.
Officers were called to the Berea Tourism Center in reference to a female who was soliciting donations. Police say Amanda Griffey, 21, of Berea told people that she was from a local church and that she was collecting money for the family of Brookelyn Farthing. She got $10 from two separate people before being stopped by Officers on North Broadway.

Officers also learned that the female previously got $20 from another person on Sunday after telling them the same story. On that occasion, she gave another person’s name and signed a receipt with the false name. She admitted to Officers that she was not collecting money for the family and she was not with a church, but was keeping the money for herself.
Griffey was arrested and charged with Theft of Identity of Another and Theft by Deception.
