Missing Person Body of Skowhegan, Maine Man Found

A Maine State Police K-9 unit has found a body, and it is assumed to be that of a local man missing since Friday, according to Maine Warden Service Lt. Kevin Adam.

Trooper Shawn Porter discovered the body at around noon Tuesday, said Adam.

Vaughn Giggey, 40, of Skowhegan was last heard from about 10 p.m. Friday, when he left his Main Street home to walk to the Chamberlain Street home of his mother, Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais said on Monday.

“He was found in an area right in the middle of town we suspected Vaughn might be,” Adam said early Tuesday afternoon, adding that the body was found near Redington-Fairview General Hospital.

“It seems to be him,” Blais said Tuesday evening.

The positive identification won’t be known until the body is examined at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta, Adam said.

At this point, the death does not seem suspicious, said Blais.

“It kind of looked like he fell down to a ravine or creek,” he said. “It’s a nasty, heavily wooded area [where he was found].”

Skowhegan detectives will back track and investigate the circumstance of Giggey’s death.

“We have a lot of work to do,” said Blais. “We’ll look at ‘What was his state [of condition]?’ Toxicology reports take a long time.”

Brandy Remmers, Giggey’s girlfriend, reported him missing at 9 a.m. Sunday, Blais said on Monday.

“He was going to walk to his mom’s house, which is only a few blocks away. He never made it there,” said Blais.
