Warrants have been issued for four Pulaski County residents following an investigation into a child being burned with drain cleaner.
The incident happened on August 21. Police say a 20-month-old male child was transported by his father, Curtis Anderson, to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of burns to the mouth, face and chest.
The child was treated at the local emergency room and then flown to UK Hospital in Lexington for treatment of the injuries. Initial fears were that he ingested the acid and that could lead to death. However, during treatment doctors found the acid had barely entered the mouth, burned the child’s lips, and then spilled onto his chest and splashed onto his legs. This caused serious burns but was not life threatening.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Narcotics Division, and the Department for Community Based Services was initiated and several interviews were conducted with the mother and father of the child. Through those interviews, detectives have pieced together the events that led to the child being burned.
Police say during the evening hours of August 20, 2013 the child’s mother, Brittany Helton, took the child to the residence of Brian Herrin, a neighbor who lives on Old South Highway 27 Loop 4 in southern Pulaski County. During that visit, the child picked up a cup off a table that contained what was reported to be Liquid Fire. The child attempted to drink from the cup which led to the acid burning the child’s mouth and lips. The child then dropped the cup which led to the acid spilling on his chest and splashing his legs.
Immediately following the incident, Brian Herrin, along with his friend Krystal Hampton, fled the scene and detectives have not been able to locate either of them for an interview.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Herrin’s residence on Old South Highway 27 Loop 4, where they found several items used to manufacture methamphetamine including, muriatic acid, batteries, tubing, salt, and acetone.
All four adults involved have been charged with Controlled Substance Endangerment to a Child 2nd degree – a class B felony. Herrin has also been charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1st offense, a class B felony
