A Washington County man has been charged Monday with multiple counts of insurance fraud, according to Attorney General Jim Hood.
Oliver Johnson, 31, of Greenville, has been arrested by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office following indictment on three counts of insurance fraud involving property claims.
The indictment alleges that between the dates of March 10, 2012, to February 26, 2013, Johnson “did knowingly and willfully make false, fictitious or fraudulent statements and/or submit false, fictitious or fraudulent documents to Progressive Insurance Company, Permanent General Assurance and GEICO Insurance Company.”

Johnson is accused of signing up for insurance, never paying the initial premium, and then claiming to have damage to his vehicle which was covered under the policy. The case against Johnson alleges that the damage to his vehicle occurred prior to the effective date of the policy, therefore causing his claims to be fraudulent.
Johnson is alleged to have submitted false accident reports as well as fraudulent bank records. He was not paid on either of the claims.
If convicted, Johnson faces up to three years for each count in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is being investigated by Trey Mardis and will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Stanley Alexander of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Public Integrity Division
