The Beaverton Police Departments wants to remind parents of the importance of monitoring your child’s time on the internet. With so many different social networking sites, the chances of our children being victimized are greatly increased.
Here are some tips on keeping your child safe while on line:
Have the computer in a family area where you and others can see the monitor.
Check the computers history often to see what sites your child is going to.
Have the password for all social network and email accounts your child uses.
Have your child friend you so you can see what is going on.
If your child has a smart phone limit the apps they can install and check the phone often.
Set parental controls on the computer and or router.
Talk to your child about the dangers of meeting people on the internet.
This incident was discovered because the victim’s mother felt something was wrong and began checking on line and on her daughter’s cell phone.
It is important for us to be reminded of the dangers that are associated with the internet when it comes to our children.
