An emotional mother is still waiting for answers about what happened to her missing daughter.
“I feel she is out there somewhere,” Julie Salas said. “I need to believe she is out there.”

Deputies found 27-year-old Brenda Salas’ car out on the mesa west of Rio Rancho a year and a half ago, but Brenda was gone.
Her family said they have been waiting long enough.

Brenda’s mother said she and her family still pass out flyers, hoping someone will know something that might help her find out what happened to Brenda.
“My daughter has been missing for a year and a half now, and I’m worried about her,” Julie said. “I want people out there to know that she is still missing.”
Julie has not heard from her daughter, Brenda, since June of 2012.
“I sit here wondering in the summertime when it’s so hot, I pray that she’s cooled down,” Julie said. “Then I worry because it gets so cold and she is out there.”
Police said Brenda was last seen at the Rio Rancho Walmart on June 13, 2012.
A few weeks later, Sandoval County Sheriff’s deputies found her car stuck out on the mesa, but a search for Brenda turned up nothing.
“This is the last picture she gave to me and her dad,” Julie said, holding the framed photo. “I feel like she knew something was going to happen to her.”
Julie said the last time she heard from Brenda, she said she was going to leave her boyfriend.
Others close to Brenda got a call asking for someone to go with her to meet him, but no one could.
Wherever Brenda is, her family said they know she didn’t run off on her own and they don’t feel like police are doing enough to get to the bottom of it.
“Our family needs justice. We need peace. We need that closure,” said Veronica Garcia, Brenda’s younger sister. “Whether she is dead or alive, they need to bring her home.”
“Until we get some answers and until we find out what has really happened, none of us will rest and we will continue to search for Brenda Salas,” said Claudia Trujillo, Brenda’s friend.
Rio Rancho police are investigating the case. They said it is still open and active, but they wouldn’t release any information on whether or not they’re any closer to finding out what happened to Brenda.
Brenda’s mother said her daughter had just started going to school before her disappearance, and she has two young children.
