Missing Person James Darren Mathis of Huntington, WV

The Huntington Police Department is seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a man whose car was found on the 31st Street bridge early Friday, Dec. 13.

According to the HPD Criminal Investigations Bureau, the missing man is identified as James Darren Mathis, 37. He is a white male, weighing 145 pounds and 5-feet 11-inches tall. He has graying hair and was last seen wearing black pants, a white shirt and blue jacket.

The investigation began after Cabell County 911 received a call at 2:14 a.m. Friday of a suspicious or abandoned vehicle on the 31st Street bridge. When officers arrived, they found the car unoccupied.

The officers went to the registered address for the vehicle and contacted a family member of the missing man. The family member advised that they last saw Mathis about 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, and discovered him missing from the house at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The Huntington Police Department and U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search of the Ohio River on Friday but did not find any signs of a missing person. They were assisted by the West Virginia National Guard, which conducted a simultaneous search by helicopter.
